Loved the music, the setting, the celebratory atmosphere! I loved running into all kinds of friends at the event. And I loved that it inspired me to want to go again this year. New Year's Eve with a concert hall full of people enjoying the beauty of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic sound is a sure thing!
What an amazing group of musicians.Though the Pikes Peak Center itself is lacking in the realms of the comfort of the spectator, more room and islef; also better use of onstage acoustics. The performance itself was exceptional, the musicians have a true love and passion for what they do and it shows!
We enjoyed the performance, and were impressed by the quality of the musicians, show and facility. Not some small town effort, this was a very good philharmonic event. Well done!Tip: Dress is Colorado casual. Nothing is out of place, but you can get by with less formal and more casual attire.
If you have a chance to enjoy a program by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, please take advantage of it. The performances are excellent, and the Pikes Peak Center is a lovely venue. Pro tip: Order drinks for intermission before the performance. That way, you don't have to stand in line. Your drinks will be waiting for you on a table beside the bar.
Two well-deserved standing ovations for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic opening performance of The Red Violin, and Aaron Copland's Symphony No. 3. We are season ticket holders for many years. So, my impressions are compared to prior seasons. I certainly didn't expect a season opening to include a stage brimming full of additional musicians, a guest conductor from the Philadelphia Orchestra, and a Grammy-nominated Russian-born violinist playing a 300 year-old Stradivarius. Pardon me for being impressed! My, what an evening of beautiful music it was! If this is any indication of how wonderful the rest of the Twelfth Season will be, I can assure you I will be in my assigned seat at every performance!
Drove down from Castle Rock with my wife, son & daughter-in-law to see a tribute to Simon & Garfunkel and it was outstanding. Good performance and a good venue.
The musical gem of Colorado Springs. Innovative programs are interesting and make for a joyful experience.
I treated my wife (and myself) to the Philharmonic for Valentine's Day. We were thrilled. (A friend of a friend who is a professional musician in London attended a different day and time saying it was one of the best performances she had ever heard.) Josep Caballe-Domenech was conducting with guest Conrad Tao at the piano. Fantastic music by one and all. Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Pagaini was played with gusto (Tao must have been exhausted by the intensity). Next was Liszt's Totentanz. A welcomed intermission was followed (without Tao) by Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 9. The whole afternoon was thoroughly enjoyable. For our favorite pieces, we will be back!!
As always, the music of Odyssey: Epic Destinations was amazing. The musicians of the philharmonic make their jobs look easy! Can't remember the name of the piece but the trumpet player solo was outstanding. The disturbing part was between the music. There were 2 "comics" who introduced each piece. They were supposed to be slapstick and silly-I got that. But, it wasn't funny. During Pomp and Circumstance the comics dressed as really old people with walkers struggling to get their diplomas from one side of the stage to the other. It seemed inappropriate to me and the people around me seemed almost uncomfortable......not laughing or even giggling. It was plain strange-especially since a very large majority of the audience is of an older generation.PLEASE make the philharmonic about the music and cut out the extra stuff that makes me want to get up and leave or, just listen on the radio next season and not pay for season tickets. Please consider surveying your audience and asking for their opinion about what they thought. I may be one of the only ticket holders to write a review but I know others who would provide their thoughts if given a chance to have their opinion heard.
The place has a small and homey feeling, but it is anything but average. I think it is an amazing facility and the music to die for! Bravo!
The Philharmonic was a fun experience for this New Year's eve. While I found the 'set list' bizarre and incongruous with a NYE bash, the musicians were talents and the conductor entertaining. I am looking forward to future performances and am intrigued by the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean screening during with the philharmonic will perform the score.
We have been symphony season ticket members for 2 decades. The present serious classics and have several POP music venues of travelling bands - all very, very good. The acoustics are reputed to be some of the best conditions for opera, ballet or symphony in the entire 50 states. it is very comfortable, and parking is close by. We are VERY proud of this !!
My wife and I have seen Arrival From Sweden performing the ABBA catalog each of the last three years. We obviously have been totally impressed, or we would not be returning year after year. Not only was Arrival outstanding, as usual, so was the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. A prior post indicated that they were disappointed with the dancing. Well...I remember ABBA from the 1970's and I do not remember them doing much in the way of dancing when they performed. We were there for the music and found the performance to be flawless. We have season tickets and cannot wait for the next performance! The CS Philharmonic has excellent musicians. If you have a chance to attend a performance, GO! You will not be disappointed.

Can you tell us what, in particular, you didn't like about the singing and dancing? We strive to bring in the best guest artists we can find, and as you mentioned, our musicians are quite good. I hope that you find happiness at our remaining concerts throughout the season. Please give me a call if you have further comments, as I'd like to hear your specific feedback.
