The house is beautiful, but sad to say that it doesn't appear to have been kept up over the years. It is absolutely darling! A great stop!
I drive by this place regularly. The owners are neglecting the up keep. It was more attractive years back. In the summer there are busses that stop for pictures and that's fine but I wouldn't pay to go inside.
You must see this large cake looking house that is most unusual. It will be unlike anything you have every seen or witnessed.
The way reviews read, this is something you just have to see when you visit Kennebunkport. It's not much to look at and sadly is in great disrepair. It's more like a crumbly wedding cake with discolored icing :( But of course you can drive by if you're nearby. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to see it.
We thought our tour director was kidding when he told us the story of the Wedding Cake House, but then we saw it and found a postcard pix of it and knew it was real!
If you stop long enough a gentleman will come out and talk with you. Apparently his wife wanted this house built just the way it is today but it does need a coat of paint.
The homes on Summer Street were beautifully decorated for Halloween. The Wedding Cake House was unique and we took several photos.
The story of the Wedding Cake House and the unique structure make this a worth while stop if you are in the Kennebunk area.
You will love looking at this unique Beautiful home. Really. Yes, it needs repair. It is privately owned. We did not know that there were tours. After leaving Kennebunk village, very nice to see this unique, well know, wonderful, beautiful, this home.
Just such a quirky and one-off building. A real showstopper - which is a lot to stay in an area filled with lovely old buildings.
We found the home to be in some need of repair and a coat of paint on the outside. While we went there to take a picture of the home because we were in the area, we were promptly met at the gate by the owner, Jimmy Barker. He was very kind and offered to take us on a tour of the home inside. There were many antique pieces of furniture, as well as items that he had just picked up at a garage sale or received from a friend. He offered for one of us ladies to play the piano, but unfortunately, neither of us had that skill. The inside of the house boasts a spiral staircase, that is the focal point when you enter the front door. There is a beautiful mural painted all along the wall. The home also boasts some beautiful chandeliers and many other unique paintings and sketches of the owner. Mr. Barker also offered to show us the upstairs, but we declined. At the time, we didn't realize what a unique opportunity we were given to see the inside of his home, but we appreciated him sharing his Faith, stories and home with us.
There really isn't much to do here except stop, look, and take a picture. You can't go inside, but you can read the history in many of the local tourist publications. It's an interesting-looking house that, sadly, does need some sprucing up.
We did not search for it, but past in front of this house by chance. It is cute, but it seriously needs some renovation.
Run down and not worth the drive to find it. Actually looked kind of spooky. Expected more. Not recommended.
No tour available so not much to see. Worth a stop to admire the architecture but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. Many beautiful period homes in the area though
