Okay, the water in Maine is always cold. But the kids don't care at all. And Kennebunk Beach is a fabulous place for the kids. Because there's limited parking, the beach is never jammed -- as in, say, New Jersey. So you can spread out and relax while the kids explore the many tide pools -- especially at Mother's Beach, which is at the far end of Kennebunk Beach. Bring your own lunch, because food isn't sold here. There are, however, portable bathrooms and a long, wide sidewalk perfect for strolling or jogging. One of the hot activities for the whole family is surfing lessons provided by local experts. The waves are relatively small but well shaped, and you'll find yourself up on the board in no time. Great family spot in every way. You need a temporary parking pass here; you can buy one from a machine at the beach.
I had never been that far north before and it was beautiful. Walking on the beach with snow was amazing. Seeing the ocean for the first time nearly made me cry. It was so clean and peaceful there. I can't wait to go back.
Take your dogs on the beach if it's the season - so fun to see them frolick! We explored the boulders, tidepools, and had fun. And brave surfers were out when we were there. The waves seemed small, and no one seemed to catch any as we watched, so not sure what luck you'd have if you tried.
It was cold (chilly), when we visited, so we didnt experience the actual beach, but I ran around the beach and it provided a great sunrise and scenery for my run.
Even when the weather is stormy, it is beautiful to see the waves crash and watch the brave surfers riding the crest of the waves.
We spent last weekend here, and walked along the beach every day for a few hours. There are lots of dogs frolicking about, and the weather was perfect. We have started to make KBT an October getaway, and will continue to do this each year!
Go here for a lovely walk on the beach, collect some shells and enjoy the scenery. Nice white sand and i´m sure its a great pace to go swimming too.
Easy to find, easy to park (it was not peak season) and enjoyed watching the surfers doing their thing.
Nice beach with waves for surfing, room to walk the dog and kids. A little cold in October but active with the wet suit fans.
On a coastline filled with great beaches, the competition is keen. Elsewhere this beach would get an excellent, but there are just so many to choose from all within a very short distance. If Kennebunk beach is not your style, then just try one of the others close by.
I had forgotten how magnificent the Maine Coast is. This perfect fall day underscored that magnificence! As we drove up the coast we were treated to the many beauties of nature. On this particular day the ocean was extremely animated. The waves crashed against the shore and rocks creating spray and a rainbow of colors. The long roll of the waves added to the drama as did the shimmering light on the water. Then the coast fades in a curve toward the palatial homes. It was mesmerizing! The exact opposite was true on the protected side where tide was low and the water still. A glorious Maine afternoon!
The most amazingly dog friendly beach ever. Locals and tourists alike with their pets so very friendly. Beautiful ocean sight lines, lobster boats, sailboats and surfers. Great sunsets. And if you're lucky, you might say hi to Barbara Bush and the first puppies!
Not as big as some of the other beaches visited but nice this time of year because not crowded. Kennebunk good to visit and beach not far away. Try to hit it low tide so more area to enjoy.
Most of the beaches around this area are incredible. The water is so cold it takes your breath away just as much as the scenery does. It was a wonderful time but once the crowds start coming, the mood changes a bit. Best to go early to catch the best glimpse of the water and to feel the fresh morning air.
