Took my 3 grand-kids on a summer afternoon. They enjoyed all the animals; especially getting up close to and feeding the farm animals. Also nearby is the Playground for All Children, where we spent the remainder of the day.
If animals is what you are looking for, this might not be quite the place. Though the have a beautiful aviary, you can easily see al the animals within two hours (OR LESS if you are not the type to read info but just looks around) nothing compare to its brother Bronx Zoo but is nice because is local and you can later take a stroll on the park.
What a wonderful place to visit especially if you like nature and animals; you forget there are large buildings and massive amounts of cars not too far off in the distance; great place to take a breath of relaxation and pass some time onto the little critters.
Good trip for a family or a class. We studied about "Earth Day". We visited this place to get hands on experience about ecological needs for the earth. We enjoyed the tour and workshop. When we left we learned how to develop a better respect for our earth. How to take better care of it. We returned to school and celebrated "Earth Day".
This is also known as "The Queens Zoo". It is a lot smaller than the Bronx Zoo, but if you are looking for a relaxing day with the kids with no crowds, this is the place to go, plus the NY Hall of Science is nearby, which the kids will love. (Just check the hours of the Hall of Science, they close early on Thursdays).I've done this trip every year for 3 years at spring break and I'm never dissapointed.
