We love to stay at Chickasaw..... We have enjoyed the riding stables, hiking, nature and the restaurant!!!
Well the little lady the two little soliders and I had a great day. We went to the lake great little area although one of the boys thought something might get him he got in the water the rest of us had a great time. That night we sat around the fire enjoyed some liver cheese sandwiches and chip. Was very nice. Then in the middle of the night the little lady said she saw a bear and went and sleep in the truck with the doors locked. I think it was only a dog or cat but we had a bid laugh about it all the way home.
3 nights a year the park transforms into a drive-thru Christmas display. The entire park is decorated very nicely. It takes approx. 45 mins to drive through the park. Look for the dates and dont miss the experience. This will be a new tradition....
We landed at Atlanta on the 4th September, hired a car from Thrifty (Must have been the most disinterested, unhelpful and rude staff in the car hire business but this is another story). We drove to Birmingham and stopped over at the La Quinta hotel which was really good. After a good nights sleep we made our way to Chickasaw State Park Henderson, it was around 96 degrees for most of the trip, a little warmer than England!!We arrived at about 3.30 pm. Reception was a good experience- really nice people, Beverly and Lois. We made our way to Cabin No 12 which was a bit of a let down. It smelled musty, I think this was because the A/C was set to 68 degrees and was very chilly. The pots, pans and other kitchen ware had seen better days. The beds were clean and worked OK and the BBQ worked fine.We were hoping to see lots of wild life but we didn't even though the rangers said there were plenty about - they must have waited till we were in bed before they came out!The cabin setting was very nice and the lake was really good, you could hire a boat and go sight seeing, the lake stretched for miles.Henderson wasn't far, about 20 mins away from what I recall. You could get everything you needed there including free wifi at McD's.So all in all it was fine but not one of the best, but the staff were very helpful indeed, Liz left her Ipad at the La Quinta and Bevery and Lois let us use the phone to call them so we could get it back(which we did i'm pleased to say!).So we had a good time and it's one less stste park to stay at.
our son has camped with the boyscouts, any time we have a little while we run by the park and walk. it is larger then when i was a child.
Nice little campground (not for big rigs, as it's limited to 30 amps). This is an older park, but they do a nice job maintaining it. The rest rooms/showers are acceptably clean. There are horse stables and a swimming beach nearby (Lake Placid). The lake has paddleboat rentals as well. The park is big enough for some hiking. There's a restaurant as well - not bad...sort of a buffet style place. The campgrounds are tucked away in a wooded area - very well shaded and more rustic than some newer facilities - we enjoyed it considerably.
We eat there often; in fact we will be dining there today for the wonderful Father's Day Buffet. The staff is very friendly and I have never heard an unkind word from any of them. The food is yummy and well supplied. Many locals eat there. We really enjoy Friday night catfish buffet. They have delicious coleslaw and hushpuppies too. Always a great place to eat and close to home for us.
Excellent place to have fun in nature . The staff are friendly and kind . They have a lot for kids to do and nice play area . You can do a lot for free some fees for something's.
We have stayed in several state park cabins- this was our least favorite. Cabin number 6 set up was awkward- full size bed in a very small living room. Our cabin had a few bathroom problems- when you take a shower there is no way to prevent it from running out all over the floor. The oven/range had a short and would just go off and come back on. The park is beautiful as well as the lake. The location of the cabins is perfect- they just need a little maintenance, cleaning and TLC.
Excellent place to enjoy nature and have an excellent meal, with the best view in west Tennessee, all the staff was very helpful, and service all around was great! Would recommend it as a quick get away, for a quite weekend.
We rented one of the one-bedroom cabins at Chickasaw State Park to attend a famiy reunion held at the park every year. Aside from the shower itself being rather small, we were satisfied with the cabin. They come fully furnished so you don't need to bring anything unless you want something like a slow-cooker or large roaster pan. The deck is off the kitchen and has 2 patio chairs. There is also an outdoor grill and a "fire pit" at each cabin. The restaurant on the park grounds is ok but nothing special. There is daily linen service---set your linens outside the door, and staff comes by and replaces it. The cabins also have large fireplaces which would be nice in the winter!
We loved staying here. We rented one of the cabins the park has. (FYI: If you have allergies or sinus issues open ALL of the windows and let the cabin air out.) The cabins were nice and rustic . They were quiet and clean. They have 2 different size cabins and they are near the lake. The bridge was out though , hopefully they'll have it do by the time we go back. The fishing was pretty good too . The paddle boats were , although one of ours was letting in WAY TOO much water , so be careful which one you get. They horse back riding was fun too. The price they have up is not the right price though. It's $23 dollars per person per hour. We will be coming back.
Loved the location in the rolling hills of west Tennessee with tall trees and a lot of wildlife. We stayed for three nights in Handicap Accessible Cabin #13, located on the main road as you enter the park. The cabin was spacious, comfortable, and well supplied - air conditioner worked extremely well, too. Staff were friendly, cheerful, and eager to help. We went horseback riding and Mike & his staff are excellent - they match the rider to the horse and are very accomodating, friendly, and down-to-earth. The swim beach is spacious, sandy, and offers both sunny and shady spaces for relaxation. We also utilized the paddle boats located next door to the swim beach; the young lady working there is sweetheart and very helpful. We were disappointed that the restaurant is only open on weekends but hope to return soon and experience it. The park is beautiful, pristine, and relaxing. It offers tent or RV camping and cabin rentals. We look forward to returning!
We stopped to check out the park and the lake for a bit of hiking. Once we got there we discovered some horse stables where you can take an hour-long trail ride through the woods for $23 per person. My seven year old son had the time of his life! The guides are friendly and helpful and the horses are quite gentle. Be sure and bring your camera...There are plenty of places to fish around the lake and there are some cabins available to rent for overnight stays if you don't have an RV. There is a neat bridge that goes across the lake but it was closed for repairs when we were there - somewhat disappointing. There are some playgrounds for the little ones and you can go for a swim if you like. Bring some change for a cold drink from one of the vending machines located throughout the park on a hot day.The park is only a few miles west of Henderson on Highway 100.
hidden between Henderson and Whiteville, this park is a great get away from life. Cabins, fishing, and swimming in season are just right. When the restaurant is open, this is a good place to spend some time relaxing.
