Rooms full of guns, tanks, planes, artillery, jeeps etc. From the frontier days up to the war on terorism. Very informative displays.
As a veteran, this museum was very touching. It covers the history of the United States military from the beginning and also the history of the Red Bulls. I enjoyed spending time looking at all the exhibits and could have spend more time than I did reading everything in it. The museum doesn't look very big, but they pack a lot into it. If you enjoy learning more about history, this is one not to miss.
Full of authentic artefacts with an excellent well balanced Narative Fantastic trip through minesota's &USA's military history
In an eclectic but fascinating collection of artifacts on the grounds of Camp Ripley, the story of Minnesota's military history is vividly captured. Housed in a museum that includes a small gift shop is a bewildering number of displays that include military equipment, vehicles, decorations and documents. Each section tells another story from the earliest period of Minnesota history through two civil wars, up until recent times when the state's military units were embroiled in hot spots around the world. The indoor exhibits are only part of the museum's collections as an extensive outdoor gallery of aircraft, armor and vehicles flank the small group of buildings that form the museum's facilities on the still active US base. A don't miss for the history buff.
Enjoyable day outing with family - great hands on experience for children 6 yr+. Excellent volunteers at indoor museum - smaller size but well laid out and enjoyable for adults and children. Hands on area for uniforms and "touchable" areas for kids. Interactive PC with Q@A topics covering military related medical and historical occurrences - a hit with my 9 & 10 yrs. Good overview of Minnesota military since territorial times until today. Outdoor hands-on is self guided but a hit with many pieces of artillery, trucks and tanks etc available to climb and view. Most of the area if flat, easy walking but hard surfaces. Covered area to sit available outside the visitor center. If timing is good you many also see the cargo planes doing practice runs and landings on the camp airfield.. Perk for kids was lunch at the American eatery (for military) on base with many service people present. Would recommend for all ages and those interested history and US military.
For me, this wasn't a great attraction, but it was interesting. For my Father who loves everything fishing, it was a great stop. There were a lot of kids there who seemed to be enjoying themselves just as much as my Dad. The staff is friendly and I found some neat reasonably priced stuff in the gift shop. If you go with the whole family it might be cheaper to become a member instead of paying for each person.
