My husband and I loved the Walpole Mountain View Winery. The wine's were great, the staff was very friendly and informative, and the view from the tasting room was breathtaking. It was a wonderful and relaxing experience where you don't feel rushed!
What a picturesque spot! Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable. Tasting room quaint and warm. Interesting video, and such a lovely view!Maybe not the absolute best wine I've ever tasted, but definitely worth the trip!
After a brief introduction to the winery and selecting a flight of wines, you see a brief film about the winery's history and techniques (or just look out the window at the gorgeous view of the vineyard and surrounding mountains). Your samples are served in the tasting room, a rustic setting with more beautiful views. There's absolutely no rush or pressure, and generous portions of local cheeses are available so you can sit and chat and really enjoy the experience.
My wife and I had never attended a wine tasting before, yet we were elated with our Walpole Mountain View Winery experience! The informative, tactful, and considerate staff members did a great job of initiating us to the tasting process and guiding us through this very pleasurable endeavor. The wide variety of wines that are available are true palate-pleasers! The view of the mountains from the vineyard is breath-taking! It's worth a trip from anywhere to be immersed in the Walpole Mountain View Winery experience!
The manner in which they handled the tasting was quite different from any other place where I have tasted wines. Beautiful location but the wines are not of significantly high quality just yet.
My husband and I moved to the area 3 years ago and have been meaning to check out WVW, so it was only fitting we used a visiting guest as the best excuse to drive up. It was a really enjoyable and economical experience. Each person picks 6 wines to taste ($5 and you keep your glass) and we also chose a few different cheeses and made a lunch out of it. Beautiful vineyard, helpful and friendly staff. My only wish was that if you do order cheese to accompany the wine, the staff would open them for you and put them on a platter. (They came out in the wrappers, and we had to ask for knives to open the packaging). Easy thing to improve upon and make an even more enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back with more visitors.
My sister-and-law are wine neophytes, but we decided to try a tasting at the winery during a family vacation in NH. Sharon and Amanda welcomed us warmly and explained the process. After we chose the 6 wines we wanted to sample, we moved to the next room and viewed a short, informative video about the winery while they prepared our samples. Next we moved into the tasting room, which had a breathtaking view of the vineyards. Sharon explained how a tasting works. They provide oyster crackers and water to cleanse our palates. They also offer a selection of yummy local cheeses. All in all, this was a wonderful, relaxing way to steal some 'grown-up' time with my sister-in-law and to learn quite a bit about local wines. It was a little bit out of the way, but well worth the effort.
My husband and I drove to Walpole Mountain View Winery. We were pleasantly suprised at how much informaiton they gave you, such as what grapes they are able to grow in a New England climate. We were able to choose what six wines we wanted to try (from a sizable list) so my husband and chose different ones so we tried 12 actually. You have to purchase one of their wine glasses for $5...to do the tasting. Pretty inexpensive if you ask me. You could also have crackers and local cheese to go along with your wine. The NH made cheese we tried was absolutely delicious! The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. We will definitely go back. The view is awesome...on top of a mountain.
After looking for something to do on an overcast afternoon, my boyfriend and I came across a brochure for the Walpole Winery and couldn't be happier! It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon full of wine (and cheese of course too!). They provided oyster crackers and water to cleanse our pallets and provided great insight into the wine. The only downside to our experience was arriving at the same time as a large, loud birthday party crew. We had to wait a bit for all of hem to order and then sat listening to them talk loudly. Luckily, they were quick to move onto their next location so we were able to enjoy our wine in peace with great views of the vineyard behind us!
As part of an excursion to Saint Gaudens, my travel companions and I decided to swing by the WMV Winery. Our initial thought was a quick stop, taste some wine, purchase a bottle or two and be on our way. Instead we were greeted with an unexpected journey and experience into the quaint winery on the hill. Their method of a "sit down wine tasting" (if you chose to participate) was reminiscent of touring the wineries of California. However, with a unique New Hampshire flair. We each chose our six wines (out of many available) and headed into the tasting room with a grand view. In addition, you can purchase cheese, crackers and meats to accompany the wine samples. This provided a great way to extend our afternoon with friends. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a wide array of great tasting wines. For a cold climate winery, they have done a fantastic job of squeezing flavors from the grape varieties that work well in the New England area. I cannot rate the WMV Winery as a wine connoisseur. However, if you enjoy wine and visiting wineries, this is a must stop. The only thing missing was the ability to purchase a full glass of my favorite wine choice. New Hampshire doesn't currently allow local wineries to sell full glasses of their products (hopefully someday). I will certainly make WMV Winery a future destination again.
My wife and I recently went to a wine tasting at the Walpole Mountain View Winery. We had a wonderful time. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The wines were very good. We are partial to red wines so we especially enjoyed the Marechal Foch, St. Croix and the 1761 Walpole Red.Although the GPS does not provide proper directions, the winery warns you ahead of time and gives excellent directions on the web site. There are also signs along the road that get you there easily. The trip is worth it as the and location is beautiful. As the name implies, it does have a Mountain View. It offers excellent views of the Walpole Valley and nearby Vermont hills.Unfortunately, due to New Hampshire state liquor laws, the winery can only give tastings, sell some excellent local cheeses and cracker packages to go with the tastings, and sell wine by the bottle to take home. You cannot buy wine by the glass or a bottle to consume on the premises. This is unfortunate because the beautiful location would lend itself to that kind of thing.Overall, despite their legal limitations which affect all farm wineries in New Hampshire, we had a wonderful afternoon and would recommend it highly.
We had friends visiting who enjoy wine also. While looking for places to entertain them, we realized that the Mountain View Winery was nearby so decided to give it a try. Well, we were beyond impressed as we have each visited wineries before. The staff was outstanding, the introduction to the vineyard, the fact we were able to choose six wines of our choice to try, have information as to what goes into each mix, foods to serve that compliment each wine, the views and general way that this winery was run, was the best each of us has ever experienced. A definite first class operation! This is one place we will always recommend and/or proudly return alone or with guests. Dave and Linda Minickiello
My parents and I were the first to enter the winery's tasting season. We were in Walpole for only two days, celebrating my graduation, and got very lucky! The service was friendly and the place was so charming and cozy. We were able to taste six different wines for a very good price, while enjoying a beautiful mountain scenery. It is a family owned business, and they are very passionate about wine making- that made the experience all the much better. I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend time with my parents.
I originally had other plans for New Hampshire but weather changed my plans. So I tried to find something else to do and this winery looked interesting and I was curious about the views. It ended up being my favorite stop during my roadtrip. I had a wonderful wine tasting, I got all my questions answers, I chose some great wines for my employers, and I enjoyed the spectacular views during the tasting. Will definitely go back! -Bethany
This is a beautiful place to visit. The view from the vineyard is magnificent, the wine tasting is delicious, the hosts are outstanding. A great place to visit if you are in the area and they are open. There is also an opportunity to participate in the grape harvest at the proper time of the year. Contact the vintner if you are going to visit in late September or early October. A really fun thing to experience!
