Had the mussels for dinner and they were great. My husband had the fish and it was really good too. Bar tender very friendly, good atmosphere. Would go back again.
We wanted to play 9 before heading home today. Turns out Tuesday is 2 for day so we were able to get it for half price. This course is so beautiful. Play smart and pick your targets and you can have a lot of fun. I definitely want to come back for more.
This is more than just a golf course is stunning nature preserve we were completely blown away at how magnificent this golf course is. I would pay 30 bucks just to drive the cart around the grounds for a couple of hours and pick all the wild berries and see all the magnificent flowers and trees and birds. It might not look so much exciting when you first pull up but once you get to the first tee you begin to understand how truly complex this course is and boy is it a challenge there were quite a few holes I was wondering if we were going to be able to finish. Be sure to come sober you will need all the skills required to drive this gas powered cart up and down on these very steep narrow twisty golf paths -that alone was lots of fun. This course is excellently maintained and the staff just couldn't be nicer. Ken maintains the course and I say bravo and thank you for such a great day on the green. The food up at the pelicans nest is also really tasty and a good value. Don't overlook this course it is fantastic
Fantastic golf, course , fair and tough at the same time, play smart score well!!! Great scenery throughout
An awesome golf course. Its hilly and unpredictable terrain make for a challenging and exciting day on the links.
We played the Chief in the fall so of course there we're leaves on the course which one would expect. However, it appeared that the maintenance had gone down as the course got near it's closing time for the season. The worker who was to open the course was late getting there so two groups were waiting for her to arrive. The green fees were very reasonable and the lay out of the course was good. There were four sets of tees for all age and ability levels. This would be a nice course to play, just get there before all the leaves fall
I don't know where to start...we decided to stop at the Pelican's Nest Restaurant (on the golf course) for a beer before we checked in at Shanty Creek Resort. It's about 4pm at this point, we ordered beers at the bar (Mike was the bartender - he's awesome!) and chatted with people that played the course earlier in the day. Mike told us about a Tuesday night scramble - I think it included golf, cart and two drink tickets - well, sign us up! We went to the car, unpacked the golf clubs, threw on our shoes and started playing (mind you, one of the girls had a dress on and we hadn’t even checked in at the hotel). We had a blast! The locals were awesome! We ended up winning the scramble and had dinner at the restaurant. Then Mike told us about another scramble on Thursday night. So...we went back on Thursday night to play the 9 hole scramble with the locals. Again, it was soooo much fun! We had amazing weather and everyone was so nice! Can't wait to go back to Michigan.
I played The Chief last fall and was just amazed with the course. I'm bringing my wife back for Fall Colors this year. My favorite of the Shanty Creek courses.
Although an extremely HOT/HUMID week, my group of 3 average golfers enjoyed the beauty and challenge of this course! The staff on the course were welcoming and helpful! Looking forward to returning and enjoying this course in the fall! The clubhouse restaurant was inviting and the food pretty good...the BangBang shrimp was tasty! SHORTS beer is available here, so that was a definite plus as well. We ate at this restaurant on another day when we didn't golf, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the British Open highlights and Detroit Tigers as well on their many TVs.
Played at The Chief on Saturday June 29th. While the greens and the course are in good shape the design of many holes is simply not proper. The second hole is a short downhill par 3 with a green that goes from front to back and just beyond the green is basically out of bounds. Many other holes are not designed well. Could be a nice course but needs to be corrected if it has any chance of competing with many other fine courses in the area.
My husband is an avid golfer and he played The Chief three times the week we spent here in Bellaire. I rode but did not play since I am a beginner and this is not a course I would recommend for new golfers. Challenging course with tight fairways and a lot of target golf with excellent greens. Beautiful Northern Michigan scenery. We had a fantastic time!
The course was in great shape and was very pretty, with all the hills. IT was quite a challenge, but still playable (from a senior female player's point of view). The husbands in our group also enjoyed playint it. We would all come back.
Visually the course is terrific. Lots of rolling fairways and many times your shooting across gorges from your t-box. After playing all the Shanty Creek courses I was disappointed that this one's fairways were a bit rougher. But still, they weren't bad by any stretch. Fairways are narrow. Lots of hard turn dog legs. You definitely have to plan and place your shots or else you'll be in the woods a lot. Cost was $25 w/cart when we went after 2pm. Can't beat that.
