This resort was excellent for my wife, my 2 kids and I. My son is learning to snowboard and the instructors there were excellent, even in the frigid temperatures, sub zero. The courses were very well groomed and there was fresh snow. Around the area there are a few local eateries, however the restaurant inside the Commons area was great for gathering, lunch and dinner. We will return there next year!
This visit for me was "going to the well" for much needed revitalization. We were there for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend (spent 3 nights). This was our first time at the Summit Village, and our first time going in the late fall. The beauty of the snow added to the refreshing feeling of revitalization! We did not go to ski. The condo was well kept and the view from all points; even inside the condo living room was spectacular! The wood fire place, which we kept going non stop was a plus. It is not far from Traverse city, where I went shopping. There is a nice grocery store within Bellaire, and it was well stocked, allowing me to prepare all of our meals in our condo If you are looking for peace, quietness, and a place for reflection this is a beautiful place.
My daughter treated me to a weekend getaway with my grandkids the last weekend of February for my birthday. I have been at Shanty Creek in the summer and enjoyed their golf facilities, but I had never stayed in the winter, which was a lot of fun.We stayed in a suite at Summit Village, which had a wood fireplace and amazing lake views. I am not a skier, but I did enjoy the nordic trails along the Cedar River and I loved the dueling pianos show at Ivan's. I had a massage at the spa, which was great. My grandkids loved their snowboarding lesson with Spencer, their time in the tubing park and of course, the indoor pool. It was the perfect weekend getaway for the entire family. Thank you Shanty Creek.
We stayed at Shanty Creek Resorts for a second time this winter season and were even more satisfied the second time. I never would have thought that they could top our previous experience, but I was wrong. We stayed at summit Village a month earlier with our kids and had one of the best family vacations ever. The kids truly enjoyed all of the family activities and my wife and I were able to relax and rejuvenate without breaking the bank. This experience was better than the last because the employees actually remembered us and our names. Again, when utilizing the free family movie night and popcorn the movie attendant greeted us and welcomed us back to Shanty Creek. He remembered the kids and us and actually cared about our experience while carrying on meaningful conversations. It really says something when you have staff that cares about its guests. The Desk Staff and housekeeping went out of there way as well to ensure us of a great stay. We have never traveled and had such a positive interaction with staff as we have at Shanty Creek. The best part about all of this is it’s located only a couple of hours from our home. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to visit Shanty Creek you are truly missing out.
im not sure they put the money back into the ski side of this place that they need to.the day use area feels like a double wide trailer. the bathrooms are caves.the entire place feels a bit unwelcoming - we had the hardest time figuring out where to go and how to get around, and we spend a fair amount of time at a lot of different ski hills - example - the bar/restaurant, they have people that bring you water, so you feel like you have to tip or order something if you just sit down to warm up for a few minutes... except, the food is self serve... so you are left either slumming it in the double wide, or feeling like you are taking up space meant for paying bar patrons when you just want to sit down inside for 20 minutes. it was an odd and unwelcoming feeling.the hill itself isnt bad, but their grooming leaves a lot to be desired. never have i seen so many ridges between passes. the red lift was our favorite.the summit mtn is pretty sad. for fun, we raced down the hill to see how far up the lift we would pass the chair we just got off. lets just say the lift is slow and the hill is small.
Unexceptional, but affordable ski area in a region with limited elevation. Shanty Creek does offer skiers 47 trails with 6 chairlifts. All the lifts are the older and slower vintage; however, with a vertical drop of only 450 feet (137 meters) it does not take too long to get to the top of the hill. We skied in early January and the snow conditions were good. More importantly, the trails were fairly well groomed. Over half the runs are best suited for the beginner and intermediate skier. Even the "advanced" marked trails are not that difficult. There are a few steep slopes. Unfortunately, they are all short. The chairlifts were well run with short wait times. We skied on a Sunday and were surprised at the lack of skiers. This ski area does not appear to get crowded on the weekends. The on-mountain food is poor and overpriced. It would be wise to bring your own lunch. The overall service was average. The price of lift tickets are not expensive if you purchase them in advance. There are a number of online lift ticket site options to include Shanty Creek's website. We paid $32 per person for a weekend day pass. There are better northern Michigan downhill skiing options within a hour and half drive of Shanty Creek such as Nub's Nob, Boyne Highlands, and Boyne Mountain. Nonetheless, Shanty Creek is a pleasant inexpensive ski area that provides a variety of well maintained short runs.
Even though it was a little farther to drive, we decided to stay here. The value was unbeatable. I booked 2 weeks before the race. I wasn't expecting very much. I was stunned to find it to be a ski and golf resort. The grounds of the property are very well groomed, and kept. There are several shops here also. The staff was very friendly and courteous. When we got into the room it was warm and clean. This was the perfect place for a good night's rest before a race. I will be staying here again for the next race.
I went to Shanty Creek on a whim for a day off during the week and had an excellent experience. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, the atmosphere is fantastic and the course was in great conditions.
We just spent the past week skiing at Schuss. The snow conditions were great despite rain on December 27th and little snow. Kudos to the grounds crew. Relocating the rental and ski school to Cedar River is a big improvement. The dining atmosphere in the River Bistro is much better than the fluorescent diner atmosphere formerly in Weiskopfs. What I enjoyed most, was the increased attention to customer service. Everyone seemed happy and friendly, especially the lift operators and parking lot attendants, even the ski school desk personnel were pleasant. Congratulations. I am anxious to see the improvements to Ivan's, perhaps a Coney cart or hand made deli sandwiches like Nub's are in the future.
It was November Saturday the 29th, and I went skiing with a group of friends, roughly 25 of us. It was awesome (for November that is)! I have been skiing all my life, and I enjoy going to Shanty Creek because it is a cool place to hangout, and I only live 30 minutes away, well it depends on who is driving ;) The runs were well groomed and they actually only had 11 runs opened. However, seeing that it was 38 degrees, and rained the previous week, I was super impressed with how well taken care of the runs were. They had plenty of ski patrol out and about, which is always comforting to see. I sadly have never used any of the other features Shanty Creek offers, but as far as skiing goes, it is a pretty awesome place to spend the day!
Great resort. Everyone very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and had a great view of the lake. Loved the fireplace and kitchenette.
I brought a group of 30+ people last August for a golf outing. We go some where every year at the end of August. Normally there are about 20-28 of us. We stayed at the Summit Village Hotel and Conference Center. The rooms were clean, spacious and modern with a refrigerator, microwave and very comfortable beds. The golf courses were in excellent shape and just awesome to play. Some people liked Schuss, some Cedar River and some liked The Legend the best. I couldn't pick a favorite because they were all great. Since we are old school golfers we did not play The Summit as it is set up for foot golf. The food and service at the restaurants was exceptional. The folks running the resort are fantastic and any special requests I had were carried out without hesitation. We don't usually go to the same facility 2 years in a row but the response from my group was overwhelming. We have to return next year and the size of our group may increase due to our experience this year. There were a couple of minor hiccups with the billing department which were easily cleared up. Other than that, I can't say enough good things about Shanty Creek Resorts.I would like to thank Tracey Ramsey, Jody Kaley and Amy Short for all their help making my group planning experience a breeze. With all the last minute cancellations and rescheduling difficulty's I had, they made all the changes in stride, and eased my stress. Looking forward to another great experience next year, and possibly years to come.
This was our third consecutive year visiting Shanty Creek Resort in early September for golf. We are a group of 8 from near Toronto, Ontario and thoroughly enjoy each and every visit to Shanty Creek. The accommodations, food and service from the friendly resort staff make the incredible golf that much better. Shuttle buses make for a stress free weekend and are an added bonus. Shanty Creek offers an excellent all around experience that makes us look forward to returning year after year...so much so that we have already booked for 2015!The Legend and Cedar River are must play courses and are well worth the drive. 6 rounds in 3 days and we leave wanting to stay and play more!
On a recent (September 2014) business trip to Bellaire, MI, we were put up at Shanty Creek Resorts. I'm typically more fond of staying in large cities. But I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable Shanty Creek was, the number of amenities they provided, and beauty of the region. The rooms were comfortable and had amazing views. Room service was prompt and always accurate. The front desk staff were courteous and even offered to walk me to my room after I managed to get a little lost.
We had been here for a wedding in the past so we knew about the restaurant with a great view of the sunset. We had drinks at sunset and were not disappointed. The sunset over Lake Bellaire was incredible. And, our server was the sweetest person ever. We'll be back next time we're in town.
