Take a weekend day and head to Dancing Dragonfly Winery.. The place is full of charm! The woodwork throughout is amazing, and there is no pretentiousness at all.Wines are decent, and the staff is friendly - (snobbery at one or so stops in the area has been a turn off in the past)...Make sure to go upstairs and enjoy the creativity and woodwork.
A Beautiful Winery to be Sure. Well worth a stop. We were not as impressed by their wines, but I'm sure they will improve with time. All of the Minnesota wineries have so far!
Have visited here somewhat regularly since the first weekend they were open! Selected it as the first winery to visit for my 40th birthday party in September. Service could have been a bit faster/better, but we had a large group. Finally a few people just bought bottles and we headed upstairs to enjoy the sunshine, the view of the vineyard and some of the awesome wood fired pizza. I love their wines, I love the atmosphere and I hope to attend an event in the winery sometime to see how they do with those. Well worth the stop and the purchases!
....but after a few good visits, I was turned off. Being 9 months pregnant and unable to drink the wine, I naturally asked for water to drink. My group of around 20 people were going to drink for a few hours, spending a lot of money. I was told to buy bottled water in the fridge. Yeah right. I would have had to buy 10 bottles just to cure my pregnancy thirst over a few hour period...Not to mention, I overheard him tell the same thing to a couple of sober drivers in my group. He finally gave in and gave me (only the pregnant lady) some free tap water after I made a sarcastic stink about it. Want to keep good customers?!? Don't be stingy with the sober drivers!
Very nice winery... Attended with a group of ladies on a wine & limo tour. Had a private tasting up in the "board room" as the main room was being held for a private function (wedding). The $10 tasting fee included the wine glass and 5 tastings. For an additional fee, we were able to head down to the bar area for additional tastings.Enjoyed the Sashay and Rumba wines the best!
My husband and I visited Dancing Dragonfly Winery after a recommendation. It was a short trip from the Twin Cities and a nice place to spend the afternoon. Beautiful tasting room along with its vineyard out the back. Places to sit outside and enjoy the weather and peaceful views. The wines were quite nice. The staff was knowledgeable about the wines and grape varietals; although a little slow to get to you for your next pour even when the tasting room wasn't overly busy. I look forward to visiting again and have already recommended it to others!
Great wines, friendly people, good food, good view. It's so modern I love this for meeting friends and having a great time!
Headed over the boarder for some wine tastings. Beautiful setting here. Places to sit outside right by the vines. Awesome u shaped bar to get your tastings. Employees were friendly and knowledgeable.
Three of us age 55+ enjoyed a couple of hours at the Dancing Dragonfly Winery. This winery has been open for a little over a year. We attended the first weekend in October, and it was somewhat busy. It was too cool to enjoy the patio, and the tasting bar has no seating, but we enjoyed the wine. It was $10 for five wine tastings and the souvenir wine glass. If you return on another day and bring the glass, it is only $5 for five wine tastings. The wines are mostly named after ballroom dances. Since it was October, some of the wines were out of season, but we still had more than enough to choose from - dry white (Promenade), semi-sweet (Sashay), red (ChaCha), port (Bolero counts as two tastings), and a chocolate cherry that tasted just like dessert (Rumba). The flavors were enjoyable. Lunch offerings were three different paninis for $10 each. The Fred Astaire consisted of tavern ham, salami, cheddar cheese, honey mustard, and a great muffuletta spread on sourdough bread with home made potato chips. The Ginger Rogers was turkey, bacon, cheese, thinly sliced apple, sweet onion, cranberry chutney on sourdough bread. The three of us split two delicious paninis. We bought a couple of bottles of wine for later. Wood fired pizzas are also available on select days, but we didn't sample any. There was a larger room where tables and chairs were set up for a benefit for a local teen, and a guitarist/singer was entertaining anyone who cared to listen. It was a nice experience. We wrapped up the souvenir wine glasses in bubble wrap and brought them home to NY on the plane in our carry on.
I will say that the place was gorgeous and we were there on a nice fall day (Sept 2014) so we were ready for a nice experience. If things had been better, we would have bought a bottle and enjoyed it on the beautiful back patio. But the scenery was definitely not enough to make up for the poor service. First, the tasting is twice as expensive as anywhere else in the area. $10 for 5 chips; each chip is to taste one wine and they use special pouring spouts that automatically stop after only about a sip is poured. I realize a tasting is not like buying a glass, but you do need enough wine to be able to actually taste it. Second, we were there on a gorgeous fall Saturday afternoon, so everyone and their brother was out enjoying the day. Although that should not have been a surprise in our area, they only had three people working the huge U-shaped tasting bar and not only were these people handling the tastings but they also had to ring up every food order, gift store purchase and wine purchase. There were no servers for the patio and the woman manning the booth by the front door didn't do anything except tell people they had to go to the tasting bar to buy anything; not even sure what her purpose was. The person on our end of the bar would quickly pour our sip without any discussion of what she was pouring and then wouldn't be available for another ten minutes. On top of that she just left the bar at one point to go talk to her daughter and we didn't see her again for 20 minutes. That would have been fine if someone else had taken over her station for her, but that was not the case. I might have cut them some slack if they were the only three people there and trying hard to keep up, but the worst part was that there were twice as many other employees milling around not doing much of anything. During our tasting person's 20 min absence, I finally asked one of the other employees if she could help us and she gave me a blank stare and said that she was a "floater" and would have to find someone else. She left and never came back, nor did anyone else. An older man, who appeared to be the owner, was also wandering around behind the bar, but just looking at everyone and not offering to do anything despite some sharp looks from customers (other than us). I guess he sets the tone for the level of service offered! It took us over an hour to finish our five sip tasting. I would say you could maybe go here mid-week in the middle of winter when you will be the only people there; otherwise skip it or you will be very frustrated, which is not conducive to relaxing with some wine!
Attended a wedding outside on the grounds and moved inside to the event center for dinner/dancing. Service was friendly and food was nice. Patio allowed us to enjoy the evening both inside and out. Lovely space.
We enjoyed the wine and ambiance of the place, but would have stayed longer if they would have offered a prepared cheese tray or some sort of appetizers. We were told we could assemble our own from the pacaged goods in the cooler, but we went home to make our own.......
Upon entering the winery there is a host\hostess stand where you can purchase a wine tasting. The tasting is $5 and in which you receive 5 chips to be used at the tasting counter for one ounce tasting pours. The tasting room is big and open with a lot of glass windows that present views of a vineyard. Even though this winery has been open for a short period of time it is clear that the vintner has put a lot of thought into the wine making process.I find that red wines in Wisconsin and Minnesota are still going through a development process and not as mature as the white wines. If you're going to taste a red go for the CHA CHA (All the wines are named after a type\form of dance). While the whites is where you want to spend your time, I found the Promenade to be the white that closely matched my palette. This winery also serves Panini sandwiches and pizza on the weekends, which are approximately $10 each. Whether you bring a lunch or purchase it at the winery, there is a nice patio behind the winery to relax, eat and have a glass of wine. The staff was friendly, especially at the hostess desk, while the people pouring the wine seemed to be starchy or a bit tired from a long day of work.
A group of four us on bicycles riding from St. Croix Falls to Cameron, WI found the Dancing Dragonfly Winery and thought it would be a good place to stop for some food. The place looks absolutely beautiful however, I've never met such rude people in my life. We went to what looked like the dining area and sat down. At least six staff members walked by and never said a word. The menus were at the table. We finally went to the wine bar after sitting for about 10 minutes and sure enough we needed to order at the bar. Not sure why none of the six people who walked by couldn't tell us that. We ordered three $10 sandwiches and asked for a pitcher of ice water. The reply was almost unreal. The bartender looked at us and said, "we sell bottled water in the refrigerated case." Really, we can't even get water with our sandwiches. She then offered us the half pitcher of water that was sitting on the bar. It was about 95 degrees and humid that day and we needed more than just a sip of water. We do a lot of biking and have never been denied water any where we stopped. Most places offer to fill all our water bottles before we leave. We did fill our water bottles in the bathroom. You might be treated better if you arrived in a fancy car, dressed in your Sunday's best, and are ready to spend the day sipping wine. Whomever owns this establishment has put a lot of money into a beautiful piece of property but I doubt it will stay in business unless they find some more polite staff.
We did a ladies night out... No kids-hubby's-just a fun night out with girlfriends. Wine was delish, cheese and meat tray tasty...beautiful venue! Planning on doing our next annual ladies night out and about there!!
