This is an unusual place, worth a short stop if you're in the area. I wouldn't go too far out of the way to visit, but if you're in the area give it a chance. You'll find some unusual offerings and a staff that are into their mustard. Most people probably won't need much time to enjoy the visit. It is in an area with a number of home town shops and restaurants, and not far from a very good craft brewery, Capitol Brewery. Restaurants nearby have character and are worth visiting, including Villa Dolce, Sofra, and Vin Santo.
Free attraction. Serious & satirical exhibits. Fun exhibits for adults & kids. I didn't realize how many different companies made mustard or that there were special bowls for mustard. Many varieties of mustard for sale & one can sample before one purchases. Small museum but well worth the visit.
How many varieties of mustard are there, and how many ways can you use it? The history of mustard was very interesting, products and souvenirs were unique, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful
different and interesting. love out of the ordinary with anything. worth the stop - teenagers not so into it. enjoyed the area and other shops close by.
You just have to stop in if for not reason other then to say you were at Poupon U!!! You liek mustard, they have it. And samples gallore. If you are in Middletone you have to stop in.
Wonderful stop if you are near Madison Wisconsin. Interesting is just one of the many words to describe it.
If you like mustard, you must go - it will make you LOVE mustard. Not only do they have an incredible selection of interesting and delicious mustard, but the staff is so knowledgeable that they will help you find exactly what you never knew you wanted and now can't live without. They will also teach you how to incorporate mustard into pretty much everything you make and have terrific recipes on hand to share. My kids love getting a mini hot pretzel, hot dog, or brat to try a variety of mustard on. I take all of my out of town guests here for a mustard tasting. Almost all of them think I'm nuts before we go and then they leave the store with a bag full of new found mustard.
This is a quirky, fun museum and shop. Don't miss the story of how the museum came to be. The sheer number of jars is incredible. There is a movie about mustard. They offer tastings. I bought a jar of the best mustard I've ever tasted at the end of the visit. I plan to go back to get more at some point!
Ok, if you like mustard and you are nearby, go in and check this out. This has been on my husband's bucket list for at least a decade and our youngest is crazy about mustards as well. This was on our way from the Dells, so it was a perfect stop. We spent maybe 1.5 hours and the museum is very well laid out. The most unique item was the vending machine with mustard!
If you have time, worth the stop! Who knew there are do many mustards?! Staff is very knowledgable and helpful. Bought some gifts and enjoyed the museum.
In addition to providing an interesting history of mustard, they have a HUGE variety of product for sale. And the best part is you can sample EVERYTHING before you buy!! The staff are fantastic with a great sense of humor to boot. The town is quaint with good restaurants and close to Madison. Definitely worth a detour if you are anywhere close by!
Given the name the National Mustard Museum, you'd think this was somewhere on the national mall in Washington. With such an impressive collection of mustard, it might as well be. As you enter the building you are dazzled with the yellowness of it all. Head straight to the basement and there you will find an exhaustive collection of mustards from all over the country, as well as from select countries in Europe. Don't forget to read the history of Grey Poupon. Head back to ground level to peruse the vast selection of mustard for sale. Go to the tasting table where the knowledgeable curators provide free tastings. On this day I took home a jar of lavender wine mustard which compliments salads well. I also purchased a jar of the Grand Champion of the 2014 World-Wide Mustard Competition -- Bornier dijon mustard (France).
I love mustard and can't help but stop here and stock up whenever we're close by. Nearly every mustard is available to sample to help guide your selection. Staff is always willing and available to provide tips and techniques for using different kinds of mustards - it's for more than just brats! If you're stopping for the first time, be sure to check out the mustard movies in the garden level theater. Fascinating!
We have taken visitors to Hubbard Avenue Diner for lunch, the Mustard Museum for 30 minutes of fun, and to Bloom for cupcakes. It makes for an easy and fun afternoon in Middleton.
Read about this place in a Wisconsin Off the Beaten Path book. We were on the way up to Minnesota and had time to kill so we stopped here. I was amazed at all the different types of mustard which happens to be my favorite condiment. They have a collection from all 50 states and several different countries. While they have a store they sell a lot of the products online. They also have the worlds only mustard vending machine. Best part it's free though donations are welcomed!!
