We were recently in Deadwood for an anniversary trip and the kids were determined to learn how to ski. The price for lessons and rental was really reasonable and they received almost 2 hours of lessons before they were turned loose on their own. By the end of the day they were in love with skiing! We came back once for another day of skiing before we left the area. the staff were so helpful and the viewing area was comfortable.

We had one of our best days ever as family at Terry Peak. It was Valentine's Day. It was super busy as they said it was one of their busiest weekends of the year. That did not spoil the fun at all though. The four of us (wife and 2 boys 7 & 12) took lessons, ski rental and all access lift passes for right at $300. I made the mistake of getting all access passes for everyone and I should have stuck with just the novice area lift ticket for all four and I would have saved $80 or so! Oh well, live and learn. Next time maybe, now that we are all more experienced but definitely not for 1st timers. It was 42 degrees and the weather was perfect. Beers were cheap. I think I paid $2.75 for a tall boy. It's not the Rocky Mountains but its pretty close and for beginners, it was more than enough. Enjoy your trip, we sure did!

SD is lucky to have such a great ski resort in the state. I ski at Terry Peak several times a year and have yet to come across poor snow conditions or unhappy workers. I love the bar at the bottom of the runs. Your typical ski bum bar with outdoor fire pits, micro brews, hipster music and great atmosphere. Fast chair lifts and even on the busiest days, not too bad of a wait.

We came 200 miles to go snowboarding at terry peak. Make sure you pack all of your stuff cause the shop there is so expensive, spent $50 on new gloves and that was the cheapest they had. Getting up to the top of the mountain most of the mountain was pretty icey which made it hard to snowboard and have fun. Wish they had more snow. All in all it was ok!

Had a great time and a good cup of coffee.....they had lots of powdery snow....great for skiing.....the views are beautiful and they had a great ski shop for any extras one might need. The roads were adequately plowed and safe even for cars to travel up.

Terry peak is my home mountain. I've been getting a season pass here for as long as I can remember. As for the mountain, it is mediocre, great for the area, but far from ideal. All new lifts except the beginner slope. Each a high-speed quad. Great for getting a lot of runs in. The one thing I would say is a downfall is that they from almost everything. If you want groomers, then it's great, but there is a lot of potential for powder runs. The lodges, they have two, are why I'm only giving an average rating. The Nevada Gulch lodge has the Dark Horse Saloon which is awesome and had a ski town feel. The bathrooms are downright filthy. They do have lockers you can rent for the season, but I've never issued them so I can't comment there. The bar is very dark, but overall a great place. The Stewart Lodge it's very bright, has a decent food selection, if you're willing to pay outrageous prices, and a decent bar. The rental facilities are okay. Again the bathrooms stink all the time, and always seem to be dirty. The shop is okay and will usually have anything you forgot such as gloves, hat, goggles, etc. Again for a hefty price. All in all I'm happy to have the place in the area, but they really do exploit the fact that they are one of two places to ski and ride in the Black Hills. Final thoughts.Eat in your car, buy the discounted season pass in October, ride in the trees, don't use the toilets. Beer prices are okay.

My family skiied at Terry Peak recently and had a very enjoyable experience. The magic tunnel where beginners are able to ride up the bunny hill on a conveyer belt protected from the elements is a perfect reason to bring young family members here to learn to ski. This was our second year of bringing our children and spouses and our young grandchildren so they could learn to ski and we could spend time together as family. The instructors at Terry Peak are great with kids - even when one of our grandchildren wasn't crazy about having a lesson and being away from Mom. Del went above and beyond to work with her and she did learn some things! The trails are well groomed and they had a good base. The staff are friendly and helpful. I accidentally paid for two ski rentals more than we needed (didn't realize my son and his wife had brought skis) and the staff graciously refunded the money. The runs are challenging enough for the adults in our group and yet my six year granddaughter was also able to ski with her parents. Looking forward to next year's trip already - Del, be prepared!

Good service for rentals and lockers. Very family family. It is not the mountains, but fun. They get plenty of snow and it can be warm. We just missed a 24 inch dumping the day we left. Check the weather and you should be fine.

We went up to Terry Peak this weekend; there hasn't been as much snow as normal this winter and it was a holiday weekend so it was all very busy, but everyone was able to get down as many hills as they wanted. There were enough different runs to keep everyone busy for the whole day. Only drawback is the seating area for those not skiing is pretty uncomfortable--WAY too many chairs shoved in a small space. Main annoyance of the day was the rude ski parents leaving their garbage and food on the tables when they were ready to go back outside; I don't know how many times I had to clean up after those around us. What is wrong with people? Obviously that has nothing to do with TP but it would be nice if they would go around every once in a while to wipe off tables and pick stuff up.

Although it was June and "not the best" time to enjoy Terry Peak area, we enjoyed taking a drive to see the area. I found the mountain area impressive and it gave me an entirely new perspective on how much fun people in South Dakota can have during the winter. Good ski area.

Took the family skiing! Perfect ski weather, it was snowing, kids learned how to ski & we had a blast! warmed up with hot cocoa & goodies from the snack bar!

We had a family reunion and rented 4 cabins for the weekend. It was great. they have plenty of options and depending on size it works great. All of the cabins were within walking distance. The hill getting there is steep so make sure your car is serviced. Though AAA knows where it is. Plan on going back again to enjoy the area. Great if you want to not eat out all the time.

Went for the day, beautiful facility, great lessons, very manageable slopes for beginners. We also went to Mystic Mountain and while that was nice also, Terry Peak was a little more upscale, Mystic was smaller but quaint. Mystic was on a back road that was a little rought to get to, Terry was located on top of a very windy road but the road was clear despite the weather.

I highly suggest skiing at Terry Peak. The cafe only takes cash so make sure you have cash or your ATM card.

We annually bring a large contingent for midweek lessons and skiing through their ski school program. Never been disappointed. Instructors and staff friendly and helpful to all. Their dedication to Special Olympics and disabled skiers is outstanding, as we notice their groups skiing each year as well, no matter when during the season we come. Can't say enough good about this place.
