I thought this place was pretty cool. When in Deadwood, I think it's important to realize that it's not Vegas. The casinos, although plentiful, are very small in comparison to others around the country. This isn't the largest casino in town but one of the larger ones on Deadwood's main street. We didn't stay here but spent some time here each day gambling. One of the only casinos in the off season that offers card tables around the clock. The staff was mostly friendly and drink service was quick.
We often stay here when we go to Deadwood. Rooms are nice, and the price is much better than most of the other places, particularly the ones in town. Get a room here, then go walk up to the Deadwood Mountain Grand where the real party is. The savings is definitely worth the 5 minute walk.
We moved from another hotel to the MP to extend our stay and stay downtown. We are smokers and were pleasantly surprised to find they had smoking rooms. Our room had a window that overlooked main street and the pretty hillside across the street. The room was nice sized and quiet. The beds were comfortable. The staff was friendly overall. If I were to gripe about anything, they could have been a little more frequent coming around with refreshments. It was a sunday after Halloween weekend so not a lot of people about but still could have been a bit more attentive. It seems to me the slots were a bit tight also. The property is for sale so that may have been a factor. The staff were very friendly as well.
I normally don't bother writing negative reviews, I'm of the "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all", but I was so underwhelmed by the staff at this Casino I had to write something. I found most of staff completely uninterested in the patrons, but my experience with the front desk is what prompted me to write this. First there doesn't seem to be any parking for non-hotel guests, so you have to park at the metered parking on the street. I only had 2 quarters and needed 4 to get me through until 8 when the meters were not required. When I approached the front desk, I was told that if this was for gambling they couldn't help me, but if not they could give me change.. really? When I told her it was for parking, she directed to me another guy at the desk. Well, you'd think I asked for his first born as he showed the most disgusted demeanor I have experienced from a front desk person. There are so many casinos in the area, the only advantage any can offer is customer service, I will definitely take my business elsewhere if back in Deadwood.
We were in DEADWOOD for a couple of days during an RV TRIP. We stopped off at a couple of bars and went here really just to have a look. We ended up staying the whole evening! The barman John was a riot! Extremely funny and friendly and made the best drinks. Some I'd never heard of before ( not sure if he had either!) it's rare to find such a great barman and his stories were hilarious.Shame we were leaving the next day or we would have gone back for sure.Ray and Katrina UK
This is one of the larger casinos in town and always one of our favorite stops, either for a drink at the bar or just to play a little on the slots.
get there early and ask for a window seat. the prices are reasonable and the food is good. you get soup or salad and vegetables and choice of potato with your dinner.
Spent 2 nights at Mineral Palace with a busload (55 people) on a scenic trip. From the time we walked in the front door until we left EVERYONE treated us like royalty. The first night most everyone had pretty good luck gambling. The second night wasn't quite as good.If you play blackjack, look for Brandon.(Very nice young man).If you like Bloody Marys, look for John (The Awesome Aussie) he will fix you right up.We are already making plans for another trip to South Dakota for next year and we're hoping to spend 3 nights at Mineral Palace!!
Gator was our server. He gave us such great service and was so helpful when we asked him about the town and its history. The steaks we ordered were cooked perfect and the service was exceptional!
Won - Liked Didn;t stay long enough to dislike. (by losing) Check out some of the old artifacts from days of old.
Always win some in the Mineral Palace, one of the casinos on our go to list. So glad there is no more smoking in the casinos in Deadwood.
We love the Mineral Palace Casino but they were short dealers and were unable to have more than one table open several of the evenings we were in town.
Gambled here a lot since we stayed at this motel. The staff was all great and very friendly. The slots were a little tight but they had a little of everything and the establishment was very clean.
It was an average sized Deadwood casino. While I saw a ton of advertisements for them on the way into town, I expected more.We stopped in on a night that they weren't too busy, attempted to order a drink from the bar (since there were no wait staff walking around anywhere), but ended up leaving after about 5 minutes since no one ever showed up!Why have a bar if you aren't providing drinks to your players or even staffing your bar so people can pay for them?Did not return and was not impressed.
This casino spans several old town buildings. It has a lot of slot machines, gaming tables, a restaurant and clean restrooms to boot. We spent a lot of time there and even won more $ than we arrived with. Love those odds!
