What can I say? It was a large, very wet hole in the ground. O am glad that I went once, but I would not return just to see it.HINTS:- Bring rain gear including waterproof boots. There was a lot of drippage and deep standing puddles.- There is no lighting in the tunnel, so you must have a flashlight, and I am not talking about the little thing on your cell phone.WARNING:there is an extreme grade leading up to the entrance to the tunnel, and it is covered with loose gravel. It is very real fall threat.

My husband and I went here last weekend. It is a very short walk up to the tunnel. Bring a flashlight though, we didn't so we could only go in a little ways because it was so dark. There are no lights, and the end was never completed so no light comes in from that direction. There are many educational signs up along the way too. Make sure you also hike down to Isaqueena Falls. They are very lovely!! One of the best falls I've seen!

On an outing with a bored 11 year old granddaughter, we stopped for a diversion. She really enjoyed the stream and the waterfall (Issaqueena), but was a little intimidated by the tunnel" too dark and wet for her. Nice picnic area, easy access from Walhalla.

Not much that is unique in this world but this incomplete Civil War tunnel is one of them. Clemson once stored its famous blue cheese in the tunnel. Easy access. Take a flashlight. Right next to Issaqueena Falls. I have been going to both of these locations for about 60 years. They still fascinate me.

If you are into history then this will be a place well worth your visit. There are plenty of information packed historical markers and the tunnel is awesome. Bring a flash light as the tunnel is deep and very dark. There is occasional water dripping from the ceiling so you may get dripped on and it is very cool inside, I almost wished I had brought a light jacket. Due to the unsafe conditions of the further reaches of the tunnel, a gate has been installed and all of the tunnel is not viewable, but what is is just stunning considering the history behind it. On a side note, there is not a fee to enter but there is a small parking fee.

My teens realy enjoyed walking to the end of the tunnel. My youngest not a teen is afraid of the dark and got half way through. If you go here you will want to take a flashlight so you can see.

Hot summer day? This is the place to visit. It is like walking into a cooler in the middle of nowhere. The autistics are fabulous. Echo...echo...echo...

This is a really neat place to visit. Very historical! The tunnel is really cool. Issaqueena Falls are located near the tunnel however I hope that someone will trim some of the trees that are hanging near the area to overlook the falls. Its difficult to get a clear look at the falls!

A great one stop County Park stop to history at Stumphouse Tunnel and a very beautiful waterfall in the same park. We had a picnic at their picnic area first located between the two sites. The tunnel is a "cool" take as it is very cool temperature wise inside. Bring some light with you as it is rather dark. The tunnel access is an easy walk from the parking area.The falls is a little more challenging to get to as you approach it from the very top and there is a trail that follows down for a short distance that offers easy access but the continuation towards the bottom of the falls is a bit challenging but worth the challenge. The sight is nothing short of beautiful. If I had a chair, I would have sat there all day taking in the beauty and the sound of the falling water. The story of the naming of the falls (Isaqueena) is interesting as well. There is a small fee to enter the park per vehicle.

It was a dreary day with lots of rain making the picnic tables obsolete for us. However, we enjoyed the walks to the Falls and exploring the Tunnel. This is certainly worth the stop.

I knew about the tunnel when I went to Clemson in 1964 and 1965, use to camp near the falls almost every weekend. I loved it, it hasn't changed much since, been back at least 20 times. Lived near it in 1977 thru 1979 when I returned to Clemson and could hear the falls at night, anyone who goes will love it. By the way the gate is where they kept the cheese when Clemson ran Blue Cheese there, now its for the bats. Bring a lunch and be sure to see the falls

The tunnel is so cool inside on those hot summer days,its a great place to go.Its dark inside so dont forget to bring flashlights,and a few drops of water may fall on your head.There is also some climbing you can do and hick as long as you like.Have a great trip

This is a large tunnel near Walhalla, SC. We were staying in Oconee SP and decided to check it out. Take a light jacket and a flashlight. It is really dark. We walked a ways (maybe 1/4 mile?) back into the tunnel and found a gate. The gate was closed so we assumed this was the end of the tunnel. The kids liked it. It was really cool in there and felt great on a hot summer day. My dog enjoyed the puddles of water. The ground is uneven in there, so be careful. It took us less than an hour to see this site. Part of that time my kids were rock climbing near a little creek (stream) to the side of the tunnel.

What an interesting place! There are a couple of information boards posted so you can read the history of Stumphouse Tunnel, which was being constructed for trains to go through, but they ran out of funds when the Civil War started and never completed the project. Essentially you walk into the tunnel as far as they will let you go - there are a series of gates that they either open or close depending on the conditions in the tunnel at the time. Unfortunately when we were there they were in the middle of a very wet summer, so we could only walk to the first gate, which is still very far into the tunnel. Be sure to bring flashlights, because it gets very dark and the floor is uneven. This won't take a lot of time, but it is a fun place to visit. Isaqueena Falls are nearby as well, which is another recommended stop.
