I live in Clemson and have two kids, 8 and 5. We have been to this museum a couple times. It only takes about 30 minutes to one hour to see the whole thing. They have a scavenger hunt for younger kids, as well as ones for slightly older. If you have kids who like rocks, it's awesome! When we went the admission was free, and I would hesitate to recommend it if it cost more than $3-5 dollars. We have been to a fundraising event there, when they offered several crafts for kids, such as making T-shirts, painting rocks, and doing crayon rubbings. The hours are limited, but please stop by if you can. It's a lovely local place.
Within the SC Botanical Garden is a first-rate museum containing a sizable collection of rocks, gems, artifacts, fossils, and what amounts to a real geology treasure trove. There is old mining equiptment to see outside, a catus garden, a glow-in-the dark rock presentation, and case after case of neat things to see. The lighting is very good. Parking is spacious and a few picnic tables make it a perfect science field trip. Collectors will appreciate what is there and anyone with zero knowledge will leave with a feeling of what a neat place.
