We went expecting crowds as this theme park is only open weekends and it was busy. What struck me was the ride attendents were very engaging with riders getting them pumped but every ride was either understaffed or simply very slow at getting going. A ride my daughers would walk up to with no line took 10 minutes to load and 2 min ride and several minutes to unload. Shows start on time and the two shows we saw dolphin and tiger were great. Park was clean, food expensive as normal and main compartment of my backpack searched. Overall for the short hours of operation 1030 to 6, it was fun and we saw most of it
Okay, I know I shouldn't expect good food at an amusement park, but this was really bad. The kettle corn was terrible, drink choices were slurpies, slurpies or soda, they didn't even have decent sized bottled water, but all-you-can-drink coke was pushed at every stop. In the days of increased awareness about food choices, this place was so last century. The animal enclosures were frankly sad. Staff (& parents) did nothing when children taunted the lions, the giraffes and elephants had hardly any room. The dolphin pool was way too small for the number of animals. What made it most annoying is that they obviously have the space. They certainly have the $$ to spend on roller coasters...why not the animals? Either do it right, or get rid of the animals, it was depressing.
There are rides for everyone there. If you get there when the park opens, start with some of the roller coasters (especially Medusa) because they can get busy later in the day. Buy tickets online in advance because they are cheaper than the ones at the gates.
As the title suggests getting the Gold Membership in combination with the Meal Pass is really worth it! You get Lunch Dinner & a snack EVERY time you visit the park. When it's hot out and your walking around all day it's important to stay hydrated so we also opted for the Souvenir Refilable cups. That way when we return to the park refills are only 99 cents. With the gold membership parking is also free. Other wise it's $20 per car per day! No thanks. Remember to bring sun screen and if your SENSITIVE don't forget BUG SPAY. The mosquito's at this place seem like they're from Jurassic Park! They're huge and we got tore up after spending the day in the kids rides area. Ride lines for my 17 y/o son were a bit of a pain. Guess I need to start looking into Flash Pass next.
We have had memberships at Discovery KIngdom for more years than I can count. My oldest Grandson and I went to enjoy the sunshine and get a break from the house. Now don't get me wrong we had a good time but were disapointed limited shows, not focussing on the animals enough, which is hard for me because I can't ride most of the rides and i go to enjoy the shows and animals in some they have lost their focus and what made it unique , special, and what sets it part from other Six Flags
I have noticed if I arrive at Six Flags maybe 2 hours before closing that the lines aren't as long. And I can ride more rides and it's not as many people. Had a lot of fun on a Sunday evening. Basically since I've had my season pass this Sunday I arrived at 5 and the park closed at 7 I actually got to ride for ride and eat fun fun fun.
This is a great place for families-something for all ages! We love to share it with our family when they come to visit. A great safe place for the older kids to enjoy on their own.
mostly thrill rides. However, there are lots of animals, birds and reptiles. lots of food venders but as typical, food is expensive. recommend bringing picnic food from home.
Six Flags has always been an awesome place to bring mixed ages, but the Season Pass with the new Food Pass added on takes away stress and planning but most of all is an Awesome value!!!
Where else can you ride a rollercoaster, pet a dolphin, and meander through a greenhouse filled with butterflies? No where but here. On top of that, Vallejo has great weather year-round. This is the most fun you and your family can have in one location.
It's one of the few parks left where you can bring your kids to see the animals. It also has some pretty cool rides for all
A fun family day at a reasonable price. Food is very costly and a locker to store food you bring along (you can't take it in the park) is a little costly, too.
I haven't been here in years and decided to go for the day with some friends. As we walked around I was appalled by the way the animals were being treated. Loud music blasting everywhere, people screaming from the rides, the poor elephants looked like they were beaten down and miserable from giving rides and shows for years. The white tiger looked like he was going insane by walking in circles. The parrakeet had plucked out his feathers on his chest which comes from stress. It was heartbreaking to see the dolphins do the "tricks". Six Flags, if you want to do it right, send all your animals to sanctuaries and stick to the roller coasters.
My wife and our silly nature turned this experience into excellent, but the park itself... Average! Discovery Kingdom has only like 4 steel coasters worth riding, so dont expect a huge day of roller coasters. The short lines and animal attractions (if they are open or showing) will allow you to make a day of it, but dont expect to eat at the park unless you got an extra 30 bucks set aside. Overpriced, but tons of potential if you are with some fun company! We had fun.
This year for Christmas we got our entire family Season Passes to the park and included the dining passes. It cost us approximately $710 for 6 park passes and 4 dining passes. We have already used the passes three times since Christmas and are absolutely enjoying the ability to go at almost no cost for each trip (just gas and refills for drinks). We are also enjoying the ability to take our time and not "rush" to have to fit everything in - because if we don't do it this time, we will do it next time. I was so tired of buying the kids gifts that they play with for a week or two and then it sits on the shelf. We are creating great memories that the kids can enjoy for years!
