Their award winning wines are wonderful; try the Midnight or any of the wines in the "Lady" series. Discounts on cases and wine club promos. Wine tasting im their tasting room is enjoyable. All are warm and friendly. Gift area with unusual wine-themed gifts. Upscale sandwiches in the summer. Events with bands, new wine releases, Special Pairings, 2- day picnics (some folks come in Motor Homes or Pitch a tent....staying over sleeping under stars). They won at the Ca State Fair a Golden Bear award/double-double first prize. Covered deck and open picnic area/you are welcome, if you want, to bring your own lunch.
We had just left Miraflores disappointed because we were treated like we were trespassers....and were so happy to find Windwalker. Friendly nice service. Delicious wines. Bought 2 cases!
After sharing a bottle of Windwalker Cab at our B and B, my husband and I could hardly wait to visit the Windwalker Vineyards. The host there was super friendly and knowledgeable and we enjoyed a leisurely visit and extensive sampling of their wines. When we departed, we took along another three bottles of 2011 Cabernet! This particular wine we found to be the best tasting we have consumed anywhere in the world! The vineyards of Fairplay, CA are fantastic and Windwalker is a "stand out " among many other great vineyards in the area!
You feel immediately at home here, and very welcome. Very nice gift shop, and lovely courtyard deck for picnics. The wines are very good, and not overpriced.
Delicious, delicious wines combined with a lovely view. They also have a nice, friendly, knowledgeable staff.
I had the pleasure of visiting this winery in July 2014. The people that work there are very pleasant and fun people, they make you laugh and treat you like family. The product that this winery produces is excellent and their port is to die for. The pair up their wines with the most yummiest of cheeses and the port with a decedent chocolate for the most pleasurable tasting. I will be back and of course i purchase there port :-)
First visit to this winery and really enjoyed it.Beautiful surrounding and nice tasting room with gift shop.Bought the Shady lady red! Yum!!Haven't had a chance to return, but will definitely do a return visit. The young lady serving as was very nice and informative.
Our group of eight (two secretly from the wine industry) received excellent treatment in the tasting room, enjoyed the very nice gift shop, sampled and purchased excellent wines, and admired the beautiful and spacious leisure areas. Highly recommended.
My husband and I visited Windwalker as our last winery visit of the day in November 2013. We were treated to numerous wines by the owner, Jim. He was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. The Sierra Nevada Sunset, a lighter red, was its most reasonably priced, $13-14, and was a great buy as I was looking Christmas gifts. We returned in March 2014, and found Jim and his winemaker had perfected the tempranillo or "Tempermental Lady," which I consider a must buy. Luckily, the Sierra Nevada Sunset was still the same price. Wine tastings are free. We will be back next time we are in Fairplay.
Visited Windwalker Winery in Fair play, CA last week. It is a little difficult to find but so worth the effort. The grounds are great for a picnic and the boutique has awesome gifts. But it is the wine that you should go for. So yummy! We had a great time trying some varietals we had not tried before. They have many gold and double gold medal winning wines. An excellent experience.
My wife and I ate at Evans Gourmet Cafe in South Lake Tahoe. We had a wonderful Barbera from Windwalker Winery with our dinner. We asked out waiter about the wine and he told us that it was from Amador County wine country. He told us that it was about 1 1/2 hours from South Tahoe on the way to Sacramento. We decided right there and then that we would go visit Windwalker and wine country. We made our way through winding roads and arrived at Windwalker Winery! We were greeted by Owner, Alanna Taff and one of her friends. It was a Monday (most of the wineries are closed on Monday) and we were the only ones there. Three hours, of wonderful conversations, a wine tasting and picinic later, we ordered two cases of wine and joined the Windwalker Wine Club.My wife and I have been to Sonoma & Napa and enjoyed the visits on a number of occasions. The crowds are sometimes big...sometimes small, but large or small, very rarely do you get personalized service and delightful conversaion with the owners. Alanna was great!Despite our love of good wine, we have NEVER joined a club...until now. Every wine (we love reds) we sampled was wonderful. The Barbera, the Petite Sirah, the Petite Verdot, all their special blends...were so very velvety, especially the finish. We couldn't resist.Wonderful wine, wonderful people. Keep it a secret! FOOTNOTE: Alanna was gracious enough to give us a bottle of their latest vintage of "Foxy Lady." (Their first vintage won "The Golden Bear Award" for best red wine in the state of California.) This is suppose to be even better. She told us to share it with the owner of Evans where we were going to eat on our last night in Tahoe. Alas, sometimes plans go awry. My beautiful wife accidently dropped the bottle getting out of the car at the hotel. Oh well, at least the Grand Residence Marriott was properly christened! Sorry Alanna. But hey, if you have an extra bottle laying around...you know our address :) Thank you so much for your hospitality.
We have been over to this winery a couple of times. Each time we go, it is always so much fun. There wines are very good and reasonably priced. Make sure you bring a small picnic, buy one of their wines and enjoy sitting out at one of their tables and enjoy yourself. It does get quite busy on the weekends so we prefer going over during the week when it not so hectic.
Windwalker has a variety of good wines. Chardonnay, Zin, Barbera, and the blends are all very nicely done. Some years are better than the others but you can always find good wines there if you are open to different varietals. Windwalker is also a good place to find wine related goodies such as aprons, clocks, t-shirts, etc. During the summer time, it's also a great place to picnic. The only downside, the wines can be pricey (avg $20 a bottle) but comparable to the region.
Great people, great food, and great wine. We were there for their August picnic. Of course, we belong to their wine club and had a wonderful time on the wine cruise the year before out of Barcelona, Spain. The owners are very special people.
We planned a trip to the wine country and had our itinerary planned out. By chance we happened to visit this winery as it was not on our itinerary. We could not believe the wine. We tasted all the wines they offered for tasting and were shocked that every one of them was great. We had our favorites thou. The staff was absolutely wonderful, great gift shopping, atmosphere is welcoming and the property is breath taking. A stop we are very glad we made. We joined the club, and we left with 4 cases amongst the 2 couples. If you are in the area, don’t miss this place. We visited 12 others while in the area and I have to say, none measured up to this one. I cannot wait for our future releases.
