We sailed the boat right up and visited this lovely winery. Great spot for a picnic whilst enjoying a sample of their lovely wines.
Yes it was a bumpy mysterious drive to this wonderful place (thank goodness it was not "Deliverance country" afterall). Should've stayed longer to have a wood fired pizza with a game of giant chess. The mighty Murray just across the lush lawn, the cockies, the dogs and the vines made for a magic experience. We had good Chardy and nice chat with the young casual staff member and wish him good luck for his 2nd year at Latrobe Uni sorry we didn't catch your name.
Discovered Cape Horn winery while talking to a local. Went on an adventurous road trip in the bush!! Was a bumpy and worthy ride . Had a light lunch at the winery and tasted some wine. Fantastic afternoon with the chooks and dogs walking around you. No rush from the owners to get off their property. View from the winery to the murray river also was good.
Together with overseas visitors and after trying to get into other wineries for lunch we decided to try Cape Horn. What a wonderful surprise this was. Our visitors like ourselves have travelled extensively around the world and we all commented that this winery without all the commercial trappings that go with industry these days is a little gem.Sitting beside the Murray river you can sit in the silence (no radio blaring) on a table on the grass with a few chooks wandering around and their two old dogs that hope a scrap or two falls to the ground. There is also a vine covered area to sit under or dine inside the tasting room.Order a pizza and its cooked in the outdoor pizza oven and bought to you and its a real pizza, delicious. We tasted and had a range of their wines, all delicious and beer and soft drinks are available. Its a bit of trip out on the unmade road but believe me well worth the effort. We cannot wait to visit again.
I went here a couple of weeks ago. It is a secluded little spot on the banks of the Murray River. It has a lovely grassy knoll to sit down, sip your wine and watch the river flow by. They do wood fired pizza's which are pretty good, and some of the wines aren't too bad either.
We have been to countless wineries from Margaret River to Barossa to Hunter Valley but this one on the Murray is by far the prettiest and most laid back we have encountered. The staff are great, wood fired pizzas on weekends and holidays superb the wine lovely and reasonably priced. The grassy area slopes down to the Murray and is just beautifull. Well worth the drive on 5kl of gravel road. Loved it!
Spent a Sunday here recently . . . . . . what a hidden treasure!! Fantastic location on the Murray River - beautiful grassed area for having a picnic plus a vine covered verandah at the cellar door where we enjoyed a delicious home made pizza cooked in the pizza oven right there! Beers and soft drinks can be purchased plus any of their great wines by the glass or bottle. They only do light meals but welcome you taking your own picnic which I found amazingly generous but the owner said he loves seeing people on the lawn enjoying the place! Thoroughly recommend for service, value and location. Call to find out the opening hours and then take the drive (gravel road) if you are visiting Echuca - you wont be disappointed!! . . . . and if you do take a picnic I hope you will at least buy your drinks there!!
A bit of a drive from Echuca but well worthwhile. Alternately, a trip up the river by boat would be beautiful in good weather, we would have done this if we knew ahead of time. The setting is lovely, the wines excellent and the pizza yummy. From memory there was also a cheese and/or antipasto platter available too. But sitting on the expansive grounds overlooking the river with a rose was to die for. Our host was rightly proud of his winemaking and the awards they had earned.
Fantastic river views, cool green lawns and wonderful wood fired pizzas washed down with fantastic wines. A really beautiful spot!
