Very enjoyable time walking around with the tour guide. She was very passionate and entertaining. We definitely learned a lot about the local history. Musuem and shops were well managed and presented.
We enjoyed our time at the Port. A friendly lady explained the various options. There has been a great effort to recreate what life would have been like in the 1800's when the paddle steamers were an important part of Australian life. Our cruise was most enjoyable and relaxing with a friendly well informed Captain. The Discovery Center is filled with information about the Port and Transportation System of the era. Definitely a must do experience in Echucha.
I liked wandering through the area and the kids enjoyed hunting for special objects so they could cross them off their list. Next time, I would purchase the package that includes this, a ride on a paddlesteamer, the Holden museum, etc. but we didn't have the time this time around.
We had a very good guide (Jenny) spoke very well and was very knowledgable kept the whole group interested and our trip on the paddle steamer was enjoyable. The whole centre is well worth a visit. The paddle steamers that have been restored are a real credit to the people who have done the job
We went on a tour with a guide, who really knew everything you need to know about the history of the town.He was a local and grew up on the river and is now part of a group restoring one of the original paddle steamers
This place is very interesting and provides a great insight into Echuca's history. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I particularly enjoyed the audio visual display inside and all of the outdoor exhibits were well preserved and excellent. There were many unique photo opportunities available. When in Echuca you must do two things. One is to go on a paddle steamer, and the second is to visit the discovery centre. It's very good.
The Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, it is a great source of info on the history and the importantly significant role the inland rivers played in the days before roads and even the railways developed. It is not so much a hands on experience but rather a read and learn as you transverse the wharfe. The staff were very helpful and knew what they were talking about. Yes, well worth a look. It is good for Families with youngsters and teens, not sure about toddlers as it might be awkward with a stroller.
Staff here were excellent and able to provide information about the history and places of interest to visit. We got to visit a mead winery in Woomboota, well worth a visit.
I spent about an hour wondering around the Centre. Was worth the half price ticket price I paid, but not more. I was expecting more hands on things to do instead it was a lot of reading. I think the centre has a lot of potential, but I don't think the children will be interested. I've been to Echuca about 15 years ago and the port was thriving with activities, however on this occasion everything was closed and one of the only things to do was the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre so it was disappointing to say the least.Having said that, the entry on that day also included a guided tour of the port and THAT was excellent and really enjoyable. Nevertheless I love Echuca and the port area and will be back soon.
very helpful with information on paddle steamer trips and worked out a fair price for a group of us.
This is now a wonderful place to spend the day... so much to see and the money spent on its upgrade over the last few years has been well spent. We enjoyed evry minute of it!
A must while in Echuca and find the history behind this beautiful town. Kids enjoyed their time and very entertaining.
After taking a trip on the Paddle steamer and seeing the information about the Port of Echuca we did not gain any more from the discovery centre, it is not very large and didn't enhance the trip. We were sold a joint ticket for both the boat trip and the centre and left a little disappointed.
Didn't like: Boat trips a bit expensive - understandable because the operators may have to sail with a low attendance.Did like: a Sense of national pride around the history of the Port. Also, this location was used extensively for the "All the Rivers Run" TV series, so adds further interest to the visit. There is a port side tea house (can't remember the name, but easy to locate), where the Devonshire tea offering was delightful and reasonably priced.
We had a most enjoyable and informative guided tour with Jenny. Her knowledge of Port Echuca was exceptional.
