This region is really worth a visit. Lots of boutique wineries, restaurants and accommodation choices. The scenery is wonderful. Girraween National Park has lots of short and longer hikes amid the boulders, streams and forests. Lots to see and do.
Beautiful weather and scenery, very friendly people, lots to see and do.Relax or take in all the activities
We were blown away by the choice of accomodation and quality of the food and wine in this region. We went on a Filippo's wine tour and had a fantastic day. The bus driver Greg was a real asset to the company. The mix of people on the tour made for a very happy and memorable occasion. I could do this tour 3 times a year it was so much fun!
Spent lots of days just walking and climbing through the National Parks in the area. They are all very well laid with lots of signs, pathways and picnic areas.
Cool air and mountain freshness add up to one great place to visit. So many wineries to choose from for a tasting or a meal and a huge variety of accommodation choices. The beautiful Quart Pot Creek that flows through the town is lovely for a walk or to have a picnic. Local fruit and vegetables to take home as well as other goodies, and lots of different restaurant choices for everyone. Check out the information office, they are really helpful.
There are so many things to do on the Granite Belt area that it is dificult to list them from 1 to 10 but here is an attempt! If you like wine there are some 52 wineries with cellar sales and most have a restaurant. Like walking or camping? Why not try Girraween National Park. Rock climbing? Photography? Swimming? 4 wheel driving? 4-seasons? Or just looking at things in Stanthorpe or many of the first world war villages. Sample the district first in a car trip? Start at Stanthorpe and drive to The Summit - the highest point on the Granite Belt; go to Thulimba; Amiens and follow the many signs to other interesting places. Back to Stanthorpe is about 43 km and you have had a good taste of what is available. Remember drink driving. Tasting wine is tempting but it is better to board one of many winetasting tour buses and enjoy! Hope to see you one day - as the Aussies say!
Had a fantastic wine tour experience with 'Wine Discovery Tours'. Great driver who is flexible with the tour itinerary. We had a great day meeting the locals during our tastings.
After many years of passing through Stanhope we decided to stay. Loggers Rest B & B was probably one of the best places we have stayed absolutely sensational would highly recommend. All the wineries are really good with some great wines, al lvery helpful would strongly recommend Symphony Hill wines. Restaurant s in the area all good. Great place to visit for a few days lots to do.
A lovely area high up and a cool paradise away from the typical Australian heat. Spend the day visiting a vineyard or 3, taste chillies/fudge buy soap and many other fabulous locally produced treats. Walking the wilderness in the Girraween and other nearby national parks is beautiful with granite formations everywhere to looks at and climb and walk over. The wildlife is great too with Kookaburras and Kangaroos galore. For Australia, waking up in the morning to frosty breath is a pleasant change to the heat of the coast and cities only a few hours away.
very interesting rock formations all around the place and some great walks to get tot them. would definitely recommend for anyone for a good getaway from bris.
Fantastic and good value for money. Visited 6 wineries and an olive/fudge/chilli place and stopped at a lovely restaurant for lunch which was included in the price of the tour.
if you like wine and walking then there's plenty to do. We walked in Girraween National Park, tracks are well signed and plenty of choices for different levels of fitness. Lots of wineries in the area to choose from with choice of taking a tour if you don't want to drive.
If you would like a diversion from the coastal scenery and experience then the Stanthorpe area is well worth a visitIt has a vibrant small town feel to it and the main street can get very busyThere are plenty of things to do here and interesting places to visitTenterfield to the South is only a short drive away with the old railway station cafe at Wallangara for very pleasant lunch or just a cuppa. To the North of Stanthorpe is Warwick which is a larger regional centre with a large shopping mall Toowoomba is within 2 hours drive away worth a visit at any time but especially when the flower festival is on
Roads well maintained, so you could access all wineries without problems. Wineries are well posted and the wine selection presented is huge. Wineries are very small, so you could have a chat with the owner, which adds value in my mind.
Winter is great cold and fresh so stay in a cabin or somewhere with fire and electric blankets. Seeing the changing seasons is wonderful and well worth a trip.
