This winery is in a beautiful setting and the lady who helped us with the tastings was friendly knowledgable and witty. She was generous with the tastings and we enjoyed the bottles we took home. Well worth a visit.
Really lovely wines, unfortunately however the beautiful view and wine was ruined by the very rude guy with dreads that clearly didn't like his job that day. We found him very unprofessional and did not interact with us at all. In fact if he had it his way would of just carried on playing on his ipod. We had a great day at all other 9 vineyards that day except this one. Shame.
Rimu Grove Winery is a boutique Nelson winery focused producing small quantities of hand-crafted, very high quality, wines. They produce outstanding wines that remind us of why wine can be such a pleasure. Their Pinot Noir is a true joy. In fact, after tasting the Rimu Grove wine I literally had to throw out the bottle of Australian Shiraz I had in the pantry - it was so strong and overwhelming it was, in comparison, coarse and undrinkable! Lovely wines, an interesting and engaging winemaker, and a great location - don't miss a visit to Rimu Grove if you're visiting the region. Recommended.
Definately worth the visit as the wines are nice even though a bit more pricey than mainstream. It is a small boutique winery with a nice view from the deck.
Should really share a good review about this place - more people will go and buy their gorgeous wines - which means leff for me!Well worth the visit - typical of the little gems that the Nelson region has tucked away.
Great spot - the cellar door looks out onto the estuary. Enjoyed a relax tasting and some great wines. I particularly enjoyed the Pinot Noir and unusually for me the Gewurztraminer - notes of lychee.
This was our first winery visit in New Zealand; we chose it because it was walking distance from where we were staying, but we were impressed with the quality of the wines on offer, especially the Tom, Dick and Harry blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
Returning from a day in Abel Tasman Park we decided to stop to do a wine tasting. We lucked out in finding this small boutique winery. We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing tasting on the deck overlooking the vineyard with the ocean in th background. Limit production but a good selection.
Only winery we had a chance stop in the Nelson region on our way from Nelson to Marahau and it was a great experience. We sampled the wines and bought bunch so that we could have them throughout our trip. The one that really stood out was there 2009 Pinot Noir - excellent. The vineyard settings and the surrounding area is also quite spectacular.
Took a wine tour of the Nelson region and this was the highlight of the trip. We met Patrick Stowe, the owner and winemaker. He spent about an hour with us and we bonded as we were both chemists. The wines were wonderful and he took the time to explain some of the wine chemistry that makes his wine great. The views from the porch of the winery are outstanding. A great way to spend an afternoon in the Nelson area. Walked away with a bottle of Gerwurztraminer and Pinot Noir, but would have bought more if we weren't traveling.
Excellent wine tasting experience. Our host was from Geneva, Switzerland and he was delightful to talk with and a very knowledgeable wine maker. The wine was very good and the quaint and beautiful setting was enjoyable. Worth the experience...
My husband and I visited Rimu Grove on the recommendation of our hotel. We were so pleased that we did. It is a lovely place with great views over the estuary. We were privileged to be welcomed by Patrick, the owner and winemaker, and spent a very enjoyable time getting to know him and sampling his excellent wines. We purchased a bottle of his Pinot Noir which we enjoyed with dinner that evening. I would highly recommend visiting Rimu Grove, both for the personal service and the quality of the wines.
We had a lovely tasting at Rimu! We were attended to by a gentleman from Geneva. He was knowledgeable, friendly and great to chat with. This small business/local feel is what is missing from some of the bigger vineyards. The wine was fabulous. THe view was unbelievable! Must see!
Interesting people, interesting location, nice wines - sadly not available in Europe, as they don't make enough to satisfy the locals!
This really is a hidden gem. Luckily, it is signposted. You have to turn off the main road between Nelson and Motueka, apparently heading out to nowhere, and there it is. Limited parking. Small building. Wide verandah, several tables. Stunning view. Vineyard sloping down to an inlet of the harbor. We were served by Yvan, who was both charming and knowledgeable. The wines were excellent, too. We bought a mixed case. This really was a top winery experience. Strongly recommended.
