Mrs. Purnell began her artwork at a very late age, much like some other ladies. She did needlework. The small museum houses MANY household and medical items from the turn of the century. LOW, LOW admission, fun tour. The girls (ages 9 & 13 )especially loved it.

THis museum is a treasure trove of the history of this town and many similar ones in the 19th and early 20th Centuries, lovingly collected but expertly displayed. I expected to spend a quarter of an hour in this small museum, but reluctantly left after an hour.

Sometimes, the best things are found in little packages and that is what you find when you visit the Julia A. Purnell Museum in Snow Hill, Md. I truly believe this the "Best Small Museum Ever!" Located in the former St. Agnes Catholic Church, at 208 W Market Street, Snow Hill, Md., this tiny museum has everything you can imagine! It reflects the history of Worcester County and offers a very interesting "century time-line" that includes the county and the country as a whole. The things you see are truly fascinating and I hope many adults will take their children there and explain to them the things they have never seen before; i.e., a "One Horse Open Sleigh" - every time I see it, I can just imagine how wonderful it would be to ride in it during a snow storm! Have you ever seen a "Goat Buggy?" How about a "Shoo-Fly Fan?" How many children have ever seen a "wringer-washing machine?" There are interesting exhibits about the Victorian Era, spinning, music, tools, children's toys, a "general merchandise" store, Julia's needle-work, etc. This museum is so interesting because of the way the exhibits are displayed.....enough information to educate you but not enough to overwhelm you. We always take our guests there and the docents are wonderful people. They'll give you a brief oratory about Julia and the museum. You will leave impressed and ready to tell other people about it. Don't miss it! Take time to visit it soon....and be sure to take some "young" people with you. The fee is only $2.00.
