There is something going on there every weekend. Got to check it out Parking is all around it and inexpensive, not like some cities. The place to go
I was here for a conference during some of the coldest weather this month. It was absolutely freezing in all of the conference rooms and halls. It was so cold that my nose was frozen! There needs to be more vending options, most of the machines (2 of the 5 machines I saw) wouldn't even work! We also froze walking from the parking garage, how about a covered walkway into the arena?
We go here occasionally for a concert. Relatively easy to get to with ample parking. Staff is always friendly and eager to help.
My cousin played here for States. Good venue. Great seating. Just wish they had the escalators working. I'm on oxygen and made it hard to walk up very steep steps.
I attended a concert in September and found it to be an awful facility. To start with, the line to get into the place was unacceptable. Everyone who enters has to pass through a medal detector and this line does not move. I have been to concerts all across the nation and this was by far the slowest entrance procedure I have ever seen (over an hour). Madison Square Garden screens everyone and gets in four times as many people with at most a five minute wait. Once you do get in, make sure you don't need to buy a beer. The lines are 15/20 minutes just to pay $7 for a Bud. The venue was smoky, staff were rude, and the patrons were dead drunk all night. The lighting was poor, the sound quality was terrible, and the bathrooms were filled with ..........., well you get it. Maybe people who have not been anywhere else to see a show find this okay, but if you have been around a little you will have to rate this place near the bottom.
I was at the civic center for a Rodney Carrington show. This venue provides great seating to everyone! While in the area you must find other attractions as well. Charleston is an undiscovered gem.
I have attended concerts, NBA exhibition games, the WVIAC tournament and other events in this arena and not once did I ever have a bad seat. It is located very close to many fine restaurants for convenience also.
Always has some event to capture your attention. All very good quality and very well priced. The establishment itself is gorgeous.
wonderfully organized, the Civic center was spacious and the bathrooms were close and plentiful. the staff was very helpful
We were one of the fortunate couples to "win" tickets to the show. We drove almost 400 miles to get there. What an experience. AR very well organized. Hundreds of volunteers to make sure you're headed in the right direction. Easily accessible.
Enjoyed AR at the civic center; however, did not like being exited out the back of the facility. The area was unattractive with no sidewalk, and looked like a cargo loading/ unloading area.
The positive side of this facility is that the staff throughout the four day conference I attended were exceptionally kind, helpful, and efficient. The facility itself seems to be quite old, and some of the more modern "bells and whistles" that one might expect at a convention center weren't there. The wifi, while free for conference attendees, seemed expensive if you were there for some event which didn't provide it for free. It also was unreliable and dropped frequently. Although there were escalators, they were turned off so for people carrying large bags of "stuff" around, going up the very tall stairs was a chore. There were small elevators, but they were out of the way, and few. Still, it was a pleasant experience because of the staff. The luncheon and banquet food was quite good for such events and the wait staff was very attentive. The convention center is conveniently located right off the interstate, near a large Marriott, and across the street from a lovely mall.
Have been here on several occasions for various events. Very adequate but getting old, needs updated.
Various functions, concerts, programs, concerts and other social functions are held here regularly. The building is a bit dated, and if there is a huge crowd the bathrooms aren't the most aromatic place to visit. But, overall I have seen wonderful shows at this venue, and have attended various functions here as well.
We were here most recently for the state basketball tournament. Also in Dec 2013 for state cheerleading competition. Nice venue for those activities and not a bad seat. Many years ago, attended a concert and have seen a few "ice shows". I'm a huge Daughtry fan and went to concerts in VA, PA, OH, KY, FL & WV (Huntington) but have avoided them in Charleston. From reviews here and friends' advice - not the best venue for concerts.
