The Opera House - a place that always makes me smile. Friendly enthusiastic employees (mostly college students) greet you, sell tickets and refreshments - and offer good advise on the best beers. We usually come for their eccletic films, but this time it was for live (very live) music - The Hillbilly Gypsies. They were over the top - and the venue made the experience even better. A large standing area in the back with a bar staved off the thirst of a frigid winter night. Our seats (and all others) in this intimate theatre are comfortable with fine view. We also enjoyed watching the college students and others having a great time in the. dance and mingle area just in front of the stage. Although there are no bad seats, if you want a primo seat up front, come early and sip some brew.
We were spending a weekend here in Shepherdstown WV an asked our hotel front desk folks where would it be to have a fun evening and they suggested this place. Didn't disappoint!
Larry Cumbo is so cheap!!! Always tip your waitress. It's really a no brainer. Thanks for nothing. I was so nice to you and thanks, really, thanks. Hope the opera house is doing ok. Maybe your short on funds. Don't go out to eat.
We were spending the weekend in Shepherdstown and wanted a diversion for a Saturday night and chose the show at the Opera House. I knew by the description online that it was a little risque and it did not let me down. The Opera House is a charming small venue and they seem to pick eclectic entertainment. The show was wonderful mix of Vaudeville acts, carnival side show and girly show. Half the fun was watch my husband laugh at the antics on stage. Had so much fun!!!!
The Opera House is entertainment central for the town - offering live music, vintage and current films in an historic environment. Sip wine, snack on fresh popcorn, bringing a cushion for the old theater seats is encouraged and a well-kept secret among locals!
Such a great little theatre with a great schedule of music and entertainment to chose from. Chairs could be more comfortable but that is my only complaint. Great selection of beer.Have been many times where I did not know the entertainers and have been pleasantly surprised. Have a new collection of music that I have purchased there.Great staff too
The Shepherdstown Opera House is a trip back in time. The groups the Management team schedules are well thought out and seem to be the type of performers who would have played at the Opera House during the turn of the century - 2 centuries ago that its - :)When you go be sure to check out the chandelier in the foyer. The place is AWESOME!We've seen no less than 6 concerts there this past year and each one, a delight. Intimate seating and the chance to interact with the performers like no other place I've been. Well worth the time and drive.
A delightful small theater that brings in independent movies and live acts. It is a very small theater, though the night I went it wasn't an issue. The only reason I didn't give it a five rating is the historic seats are historically uncomfortable. However if you arrive in time the front of the theater has couches and they are very comfortable.
Excellent movies shown in an old movie theater, You get the sense of movies of long time ago , with pop corn friendly people, and a sense of history
Did you see Dr. John right from New Orleans! How about that female trombone player! Great music in a perfect venue. Excellent audfience too.
An intimate theater that seats about 125 people, the Opera House has a wide variety of movies, sports events like the Orange Bowl, and an eclectic mix of musical performances to suit nearly every taste. Check them out at operahouselive.com
The Shepherdstown Opera House is a great classic movie theater. I can never pass up visiting these older theaters and they never fail to intrigue me. Where else can you view an independent film in a "real" movie theater with real popcorn and real butter? It's a great experience to visit the Shepherdstown Opera House and wonderful to see that this theater is being maintained so well.
The seating is the 50's, films are off the "A" list stuff. It is reminiscent of 40-50 years ago. I find it fun and a break from modern multiplex money mills. It has a loyal following.
