hinton railroad museum

Visited while waiting to reboard the New River Train Excursion. Lots of historical information to digest and not enough time that day. The museum volunteers were very friendly and informative, especially the older gentlemen who used to operate the telegraph and teletype systems.

Went to Hinton during Railroad Days. Stopped in the Museum and was pleasantly surprised with the details and information. Better then the crafters at the street fair.

This museum looks modest from the street but is quite large (two floors). Very rustic in a restored, historical guilding with tons of local memorabelia from a by-gone era of railroading and commerce in Hinton. You can easily spend an hour or longer in this charming little place, and they take donations but do not charge any fees!

We stopped into this museum while on vacation. We have 4 children ages 9,6,6, and 3. They all loved the museum. There is a nice lady who greets you as you come in and gives you a brief history of the railroad in the area. The musuem is free but accepts donations. Definately a must see if you like to pepper in educational stops on your travels.

A very large free museum to visit. In the middle of town. convenient to many things to see and do. Come on in and spend the day.

We didn't know why we were driving to Hinton, we just thought we should and we found this little railroad museum and found it quite delightful. There was an sweet older lady who greeted us and gave us a bit of information and then we browsed the pictures and wood carvings showing the history of the region's railroad. We are not train enthusiasts, but we found it enjoyable to walk through. Admission is donations only.
