Be sure and get directions before you go looking for this memorial. It is a little hard to find unless you know what you are looking for. This memorial will move you deeply and you will come away with not only historical facts but a new appreciation for what a mining town and its people are really like.

Difficult to find!!! GPS does not work. Just follow your intuition for where you think it should be. That's what got us there on the third try. But and excellent view of the mine. Clean plaza with memorial and some information about the disaster and mining history.

This is a wonderful memorial to miners killed in the mines in Butte. Video and audio tributes to the mine disasters. Spectacular overlook of the surface mining operations and several of the apparatus for the below ground mining, some more than a mile deep. Panoramic view of Butte, MT.

The memorial honors the more than 2300 miners who lost their lives in the mines around Butte. We visited on the night of a dull moon which highlighted the memorial itself and the valley below.

This is a very well done memorial to miners that perished in a terrible accident. The area includes a tribute to the variety of people that settled in Butte from around the world. The views are spectacular.

Just above uptown Butte. Provided an audio history of the mine disaster memorialized. Be sure to press the audio button on wall. Great views of area snd city from above, including a different perspective above the Berkeley Pit. Provides historical perspective on Butte and mining history. Cleverly built with mining trades skills and material. Notice half round rock core samples used as decor on walls, clever metal work, etc. Good view of mining headframe above Butte from the memorial and on drive back into town. Only takes 5 minutes to get there from anywhere in town. Read the names on the brick pavers. Very touching.

After dinner, we decided to explore Butte. As we drove up into the hills and passed into Walkerville, imagine our surprise in discovering this truly memorable monument to a very tragic mining accident. Not only is it obvious that Butte is making the great strides to preserve its history in an accessible and enjoyable way, but they are also improving the entire area where the mines were, cleaning pollution and providing walking trails. Do not miss this site.

Very nicely done. This memorial reminds us how dangerous underground mining was, and is. I had lived in Butte in the '70s and did not know this story. I thought it was very well done, and very much liked the walking trails attached.

The interpretive displays are very well done and very informative. We just "happened upon" the memorial. Having better signage on how to get there from freeway would have been helpful.

I visit Butte every year to attend a career fair at Montana Tech and while I'm there I always make a point of visiting this site. It is very peaceful overlooking the Berkley Pit and you get a feeling that this memorial is very special. So sad yet very heart warming that so many years later, these people are remembered.

Great views of the copper mine and yesteryear mines. Plenty of historical markers of the worst mine fire in U.S. history. Worth an hour of ones time to view and read about the mine and the men who worked there.

This memorial is an awesome thing and more people need to know about it! This was such a horrible thing to have happened and its nice to see a memorial about it!

A free informative monument to those who perished in the largest hard rock mining disaster. I think it is only worthy of the number one spot in Butte only if you are too cheap to visit the mining museum or Berkeley pit.

This is my absolute favorite place to take visitors at sunset. The view is gorgeous. It's a nice, quiet time to read all about the Granite Mountain tragedy. It's a lovely memorial. One word of advice - take mosquito spray if you are there in the summer.
