Try this one for a great quarry. Good diving for new and experienced divers alike. Great service and facilities.
I've dove PSBSR off & on mid. to late summer the past few years. There's a large section maybe a bit over 20 feet deep with quite a number of sunken attractions, like boats, an RV, a school bus, etc... Over a ledge to the side is a fairly vertical drop down to a bottom where you can follow along beside the wall and see some more attractions; a white van, old time fire truck, etc..., which might run 50 feet deep or so? And you can get on down to the bottom. Even fairly close to the entry area you can easily get to 80+ feet, even a bit over 100, and elsewhere the quarry is deeper. Thermoclines vary but roughly demarcate the above sections; down to around 15 - 20 feet, might be upper 70's mid to late summer. Next level down, chilly; a 5 mm wet suit works fine for me. Down deep, tends to run around 45 degrees, and I need add a hood and gloves because that's bitterly cold, and a cold-sensitive person would want a 7 mm or a dry suit. Fish are bass, blue-gill and some catfish. There are a bunch of pick nick tables for setting up, but they get filled on summer weekends so plan to get there early, share or work from the ground. Facilities have recently been improved. There's a full service dive shop on grounds, where you can get tanks filled, hydro.'d & viz.'d, reg.s serviced and rent or buy gear. Overall, a very nice resource for the area and instructors come from a large drawing area to train students here, and divers come to enjoy themselves and keep up their skills. You can dive solo if you're solo certified & leave a dive plan with the SDI liability waiver with staff at the dive shop.Richard.
Dennis, Kris, Lee & the rest of the staff do everything in their power to ensure that everyone has an incredible time. From the delicious food stand, to the crystal clear water, and the friendliest people working there, PennyRoyal has it all! It has something for divers of all skill-sets. From 20' shallows, to over 100' depths, this place will not leave you wanting!
While going through Kentucky we stopped at Hopkinsville and did a dive with Dennis...GREAT time & if your in the area, don't miss it.
I am a scuba instructor, and I really appreciate everything about the Pennyroyal Blue Springs Resort experience. First, they have a wonderful staff that truly welcomes you and makes you feel at home, even when they are extremely busy. Second, the dive site is huge, with plenty of room to tour around under water. If you are a new diver, there is a very large area that averages about 20 to 25 feet deep, with plenty of things to see as well as training platforms. If you are more experienced, there are deeper areas to explore, also with attractions like boats, vehicles, and old quarry equipment. Another bonus is that the water is usually very clear at Pennyroyal. Overall it is a really fun place to dive where you feel welcome and relaxed with everyone.
I took some members of our Police Dive Team to Blue Springs for some training and I must say that this place and the people exceeded our expectations. The water is excellent with super visibility and the staff really go the extra mile to make you feel like a part of their family
I am a scuba instructor & bring my students there, due to it being in close proximity. It has something for everyone- s ghost allow warm water (summer) & colder deep water (year round). Safety of my students is paramount, the clear waters allows me to see all my students & monitor them a tc all times. Penntroyal also has an extensive safety plan, as many of the staff is trained on 1st aid, CPR, AED & Oxygen administration, many are also EMT'S & paramedics. The quarry has a full service dive shop & freindly staff.
My friends talked me into getting certified at Pennyroyal and I couldn't have made a better choice! The staff is AWESOME and the water is so clear! If you want a great place to take the family, go to Pennyroyal. You will love it!
Made a 3hr trek this week to dive what I found to be the best location in Ky. A spring fed quarry dive site with depths up to 127', the water has unusual clarity for an inland location. I had expected the typical lake murk and debris but was pleasantly surprised at visibility over 30' due to recent rains.Pro shop is at top of hill, get all your stuff here before you drive down-- hill is very steep and not conducive to foot traffic. Air fills are available at fair prices, and equipment rental should you need. Staff is very helpful and friendly. First visit divers are issued a hard card for ID for quick repeat registration.Driving down the hill to the entry area, you can drive right up to the tables next to the water and unload your equipment and then park nearby. Very little dust on the unpaved roads- nice. waterside tables are covered, allowing you to suit up and literally stride right into the deep water. Awesome!Underwater attractions are neat- fire truck, cabin cruiser, assorted stuff along with the fish make for a fun dive. Water was quite warm except for near the firetruck where it dropped approx 20-30deg, I had a shorty on and was a bit too cold. I was only able to do one tank, and next time I will definitely do two. Was there on a Friday afternoon and only 4 other people there. Wonderfully relaxed and enjoyable afternoon.Support facilities are limited- no on-site food, only 2 portapotties (one by shop, 1 by quarry), and no changing area. Come prepared for these drawbacks and you'll be OK. A pretty fair amount of debris that could be cleaned up to make the site more attractive is present, but does not affect the dive experience.Didn't try the training, so can't speak for that.Look forward to returning.
came to penny royal to get certified in diving and had a great time....lots of stuff to see...loved it!
Been diving at Pennyroyal for years, and it's always top notch! Employees are friendly, knowledgable & always safety-conscious. Entry fees & air fills are very reasonable. Night diving here is a lot of fun, too. I recommend buying your entry tickets online at their website. You can check-in at the booth from your car, then drive down to start diving!
I've been diving here for several years now and it's a great place to dive, for fun or while training students. Many things to see above the thermocline and a lot to see below it too (so I've been told...I'm a warm water diver!). The owners are great and the food this year has been very tasty!
The best diving in the Midwest. My five y/o was just as welcome. Very helpful, and friendly. Full service and family oriented.
Thanks for visiting our facility. We hope we exceeded your expectations for inland scuba diving and look forward to serving you on future visits back to us. We also want to thank you for your review on Trip Advisor. Letting others know how your visit was lets us know how to better serve our guest. So again thank you for diving with us.
This is top notch quarry diving. They have something for everyone; deep, shallow whatever you prefer to dive they can accomodate. GREAT attractions. Visibility is wonderful. Staff is super helpful and friendly.
