Friends having been raving about the Dune Grass resturant and I finally got there last night. We were a party of 12 and the food and service was superb! Every person at the table loved their dinner and we had a wide variety of dinners - the shrimp, salmon, steak, and even lobster mac and cheese (rich and yummy). I had the baked haddock (best I've had around), braised brussel sprouts with bacon and the tastiest mashed potatoes ever! It came with a spinach beet salad and a decent bottle of chardonnay all for $39 for two!! The kid's menu was actually the lunch menu where our 11-year-old found a deluxe grilled bacon and cheese sandwich with incredible homemade potato chips that all the adults had to sample. The atmosphere was great too - casual, fun, good tunes playing. I've been told there is often live music during the summer but we were there off-season. This is my new favorite place to eat in OOB!

Nice place for dinner. We used a coupon from a local paper and had a wonderful time. Entree, dessert and bottle of wine for a great price. Try it, you'll like it!

The Dunegrass Golf Club, mostly surrounded by the accompanying Dunegrass resort, offers a beautiful layout tucked into this near the coast hideaway off of Route One or Interstate 95 just south of Portland and Scarborough. The course fairways do get narrow at spots, and there is plenty of water to challenge your shotmaking/laying up abilities. Several greens were still showing the effects of a very tough winter in Maine, but never enough to make playing undesirable. When we visited the clubhouse staff was pleasant, the starter was very helpful and congenial. We played at 8:30, so probably beat the rush, and that might be something you want to consider if you don't like four plus hour rounds. We were near the front of the pack with a cart, and finished in about three hours, but later on, the course will be much slower. The conditions at Dunegrass have been echoed at other courses we've played very recently in New Hampshire and Vermont as well as Maine. Winters can be very tough on a course, and if the course is being nursed back into prime condition, as Dunegrass is, there will be some areas of winterkill. I can tell you that their $75 a person including cart is as good a price as there is around at a comparable course. Most very well kept courses are much more. Dunegrass was very enjoyable for us............a 76 year old 16 handicapper, and a 70s 30 handicapper. We would play there again, and think you would enjoy it too.

A reasonable course with some interesting holes. Most of the fairways are lined with houses and apartment buildings. There is also a good distance between greens and tees - you need a buggy. The fairways are in reasonable condition (not a surprise given the rain this year). However, some of the greens and tee boxes are in a poor state, with bare patches etc. I'm not sure if this is because of the hard winter or just that the course needs a bit more tlc. We were charged $150 for two, sharing a buggy, which is probably about average for the area. The food was ok in the bar after our round.

Playing at golf is my passion, 25 handicap, but enjoy when I am out there. Talked into paying $60 ( with a coupon) to play Dunegrass Country Club. A bit rude in the clubhouse, but it was busy as an excuse. No starter, so free for all on the first tee, and what a view, took the frustration away, real pretty. Being in one of the vacation capitals of Maine with so many levels of ability I was shocked at how the course was laid out, narrow fairways and tournament rough 12" from the very narrow fairway. The trees were not cleared out and were just filled with brush which made for slow play. With no starter there were twosomes mixed in with foursomes and this developed frustration. We actually saw a ranger who after hanging with the twosome behind us told us we had to let the two some behind us through due to slow play, as we were standing on the tee waiting for the couple in front of us to clear, that never happened. If you are a very good golfer and hit the ball long and straight, you might like it better, if you are an average golfer, grab a beverage, a couple of extra sleeves of balls, make the best of it and enjoy some nice scenic holes. I gave this a three instead of a two because of the layout.Thanks for reading

After reading some of the reviews, I thought I would share mine. I too remember before there were 18 holes and there was only the Old Orchard Beach 9 hole course. It was cheap, fun and right in the middle of OOB. Then came the construction of the new 18. I can remember our group jumping over onto one of the new but not yet opened fairways just to hit a ball off the new grass. What followed was a series of ups and downs for OOB golf. Dunegrass soon swallowed up the old 9 and yes housing started to come in to play. The conditions went up as did the prices. What followed was bad management for a few years and slowly deteriorating conditions. Soon it was unplayable at the cost. In came new owners and Nonesuch to manage the course. Slow and steady improvements to tee boxes, greens and fairways have restored much of its beauty and challenge. Yes there are many new homes in the overall development area but I don't find them encroaching on the course on nearly most holes (unless you can duck hook like a beast or slice the heck out of a ball). The golf is coming back and so are the golfers. I expect it to continue to improve each year and will gladly come back to play it often.

When I was just barely a teen, we played the golf course at OOB. There was a ramshackle wild animal park across the highway.. On the 9th tee we would purposefully aim at the camels across the street. Bad karma. Now that I take golf semiseriously, the accumulated debit incurred by those tee shots and stealing other golfer's balls as they hit over a crest on the 9th has totally corrupted my middle game.That's it. that's why all my irons are either too long or too short. Damn camels.I've made it a point to play every public golf course from the New Hampshire border to Portland. While Riverside remains my favorite for finding lost balls and both Depp Creek and Salmon Falls offer a good workout if you're walking, Dunegrass is (pardon the pun) a gem in the rough (the rough being Old Orchard Beach). I've only played the front 9 but that was a treat. Great water hazzards, well-kept fairways, both inviting and challenging greens combine to make the course a 'must play'.The flock of Canadian Geese eating and fertilizing the fist fairway were inured to my massive drive. Guess only long ball hitters play here. Every hole was like a separate chapter in a golf puzzle book. The only thing I had a problem with was finding the tee for the next hole. since the course is laid out in and about a housing development, Distances between green and tee are sometimes convoluted. Just follow the cart paths in most cases. Can't wait to play the back nine.Great putting green. Haven't tried the restaurant yet.

What happened to the service?? Drinks took 30 minutes. Food was decent but we nearly fainted from hunger.

Dunegrass used to be a the type of fine golf course that you might treat yourself to once or twice a year. The price is steep, but the course is in great condition, unique, and challenging...or at least it was. It's been a few years since I've been there and was disappointed to see how downhill it's gone. The drive into the clubhouse is now lined with houses that they crammed in there. The course has even been laid out differently (taking over a former 9 hole course) in order to accommodate more homes. Many of the holes are lined with homes, so instead of feeling like you're getting away from it all, you feel like you're in someone's backyard. I'm an amateur golfer, so a fairway lined with houses is too nerve-racking for me.When we arrived at the pro shop, we stood around for 5 minutes waiting for someone to arrive and help us. The person that showed up was surly and they lost our tee time I made the day before. Since no one else was there (I'll blame the overnight rain for that), he let us go right off. We chose to play there because we wanted to use the Links Card. It's advertised as being $55 with a cart during the weekdays when using this card. He charged us $59, and when we questioned it, he told us we were lucky that they even accepted it.When we arrived to the 2nd hole, the sprinklers went off. I have never seen anything like it. Out golf carts and bags got soaked before we could move them. I attached a picture of my friend standing on the tee box. Notice the tee box conditions. I guess they thought that 9:00AM after a rain storm while people were playing was the right time to water the mud. Overall the conditions of the course were average and I expected better. It's kind of surprising since there was a maintenance crew on nearly every hole (annoying). I felt like they were following us around. When we finished we ate lunch on their outdoor patio. It was a beautiful afternoon and outside of a threesome that played behind us, not one golfer came through the 18th hole in the hour we sat there. If you're in the area looking for golf, I recommend Nonesuch (which now owns Dunegrass...hopefully they'll turn it around) and Sable Oaks.

This course is simply fantastic! It has it all - water, hidden holes, woods, treacherous ravines, big bunkers - well, all but steep hills owing to its location. Greenskeepers do a great job. Excellent carts - you do not want to walk it. Good and reasonable food at the turn if desired.

I have played this course many times over the past few years and have seen it's ups & downs. I'm thrilled to report that over the past year & a half there a many UPs!! The course is in fantastic shape; beautiful lush fairways, tee boxes as well as the grounds surrounding the holes. The staff is very accomondating, the restaurant is serving good meals with a very friendly staff. I also took a few golf lesson's from the golf pro Abby Spector, a nice soft spoken lady who instructed me on what I was doing wrong, and how I needed to correct the problem. the staff in the pro shop was very nice, The course layout is very bice, many beatiful holes of golf, a good but fair challenge for every level, the best greens i have played this year, we were behind a hole after 11 because we were matched with 2 occasional golfer and the marshall was very courteous in politel;y asking up to try to catch up to the group ahead. Just a great day of golf and i recommend this course to everyone who is in the area for golf

I had dinner in the restaurant at Dunegrass with my husband the other night and had a very nice experience. I had the beet salad and asked for a piece of grilled salmon on top. The waitress was very accommodating about my request and the salmon was excellent. The salad came with a unique bacon vinaigrette which was something different but turned out to be a great combination with the goat cheese, beets and pecans on the salad. My husband had the filet which he said was cooked perfectly. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas and gave the place a nice festive feel. I would definitely return for another meal.

Played this course for the first time and was impressed by the friendly staff, well laid out course, very nice greens and great value. The Pro Shop had quality merchandise and the lunch was excellent. I will definitely be back. If you are in the area give it a try!
