We had brunch here yesterday, and what a treat! There was an excellent jazz trio playing-the quality of music was amazing! The meal was delicious and reasonably priced. They only add a 10% surcharge for the music-no cover charge. Quite a bargain! You may make extra donations for the musicians if you like. The service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere very relaxing. We will definitely be back! We are fortunate to have this venue so close by.
Great live music with extremely talented musicians! Wonderful food and atmosphere. Friendly staff and great view from every seat.
Great place for dinner and a show! It's a "Donate what you want" for the musicians and make a reservation for dinner and you'll have your table all ready for you! Great accoustics, great table and chair set ups for dinner/show.... easy flow for servers to move around to serve while the show is going on Looked like there will be a nice size room downstairs and two outdoor patios when the renovations are done. Owners are doing a great job!
My favorite place in the Hudson Valley. Excellent food, good selection of beers, and unbelievable quality entertainment for such an intimate setting.
We first wanted to go here for dinner but quickly realized it was the music was very laud. The food looked good ans the people eating looked happy. However we did come back for drinks. They have a good beer selection and really good mixed drinks.
Love this place! Went there two years in a row for my husband's birthday and the live music is always wonderful and the service great! The bartender was so friendly too and even though they have a regular crowd, they are great about being friendly to the newbies like us, so we felt really comfortable and are looking forward to going back more often!
In Marlboro, NY (the Hudson Valley) is Live at The Falcon, a venue for live music that also serves dinner and has a full bar. We heard blues-man Slam Allen while enjoying craft ales, a burger and a very respectable house-made duck confit sandwich. We had originally booked 3 nights at a B&B in Hyde Park, NY, in order to visit the FDR home and museum, and to have dinner at the CIA. Shortly before we were to arrive, the proprietress called and very apologetically said that she had overbooked – the first time in 6 years. She had taken the liberty to find an alternate accommodation for us, she said. Since we had waited a little too long (it’s was approaching foliage season and many places were booked) we said, sure, and took the reservation.Guarino Farms B&B, our alternate accommodations, is a wonderful place to stay. It’s not a “full time” B&B, as the owners, Kathy and Alan Guarino, have several other things that they do with their large property in the middle of Hudson Valley apple country. They accommodate corporate retreats and executive training sessions; they host a clay-pigeon shooting club and rent the property for weddings. But as B&B guests, we felt pampered and couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay. The Rose Cottage has 3 guest rooms – we were in the king-bed room downstairs. The room had a large bathroom with custom tile shower and lots of towels and nice touches like an iPod friendly bedside clock and a bowl of Honeycrisp apples. There is a nice common sitting room on this floor, as well as a large kitchen with stove and full size fridge, Keurig coffee maker (great for us early-risers) and sunny breakfast room as well as a large deck. Kathy and Alan made us a delicious 3 course breakfast each morning at the time of our choosing – everything was over the top delicious, fresh and local. Drive time to Hyde Park and the CIA was under a half hour and not difficult to navigate. Kathy and Alan warned us that the CIA could occasionally disappoint since they are, in fact, students. The CIA did not disappoint – we ate at American Bounty and found it well up to the standards of the best in Boston and an excellent value. The service was perhaps a little unpolished but they are not in school to be serving staff, now are they? Great value, reasonably priced and well selected wine list, and we were even comped a delicious cheese platter, perhaps since we waffled over the cheese cart for a while and decided to order a dessert instead. The Walkway over the Hudson, a railroad bridge converted to pedestrian bridge, is a mile-plus walk, high above the Hudson River. A bike rental shop is nearby and weekends seem to be popular with local fundraisers. We saw a quartet of bagpipers tuning up for a charity walk. Even on a lovely weekend day the bridge was not crowded, although the parking lot WAS, undoubtedly due to the charity walk.
Ok, so this kind of place usually gets me all excited. A hidden local gem.(So they say) People rave and I feel like," Ooh I must check it out, its gonna be great!!"...and then--I am disapointed. Heres my rundown. I went for dinner and stayed for a show. The crowd was sparce, but did have a feel of intimacy. So at first I was impressed. The place is in the cute little Village of Marlboro, and situated next to a small waterfall. (sounds good so far, right) This stuff is all part of what pulled me in too. However, this is where my enthusiasm stops. Once seated for dinner, the place was dead, and we knew why once given our dinner menu. Pasta night!! A very simple menu with just a small variety and at a premium cost. I was not impressed by the food! Checking out the regular menu proved to be useless as it was pretty bland as well-- but ok, lets talk wine. The Sangria was terrible I do not recommend!!! The drink choices not good. Waitress told us new chef was changing menu up. Ok so here we are at cute location, intimate feel, bad food and wine, ok service, and what is left?? The music. Our headlining act was an hour late. By this point we were all annoyed and very disapointed and a whole lot emptier in our pocketbooks!! But oh how cute that little waterfall is!! The music scene would be nice if you eat dinner elsewhere, grab drinks beforehand and then show up for the music!!
This place is not only for dinner, but for the entertainment - finest jazz, blues and rock musicians play there. It is truly unique: settings (this is the building that used to be an old button making factory), the owner with his superb dedication to make something outstanding practically in the middle of nowhere, and very decent local food. However, if one wants to drink a good wine there - he is out of luck. The wine list is mediocre (wines are local as well) but it is compensated by usually great music and the exhibition of work of local artists.
Overlooking the Hudson River in the tiny town of Marlboro, NY is an artsy venue know for its food made from locally-grown ingredients. The food is tasty and excellent and served in small portions. I've been here several time and actually enjoy their Sunday Brunch a great deal. While you eat your mouth-watering food, you are entertained with live jazz music. If you go for dinner, you're best off making a reservation. After dinner is a variety of entertainers which changes each week. People who prefer to dine outdoors can eat on the patio which overlooks a waterfalls that is so serene and beautiful, you never want to leave. So make a point to come up from NYC or from Westchester or NJ to this artsy little town and come experience "Live At the Falcon." You will want to come back often.Phyllis
We love the Falcon! The music and artists are the best! Tony Falco and staff are always warm and friendly. Food - delicious. A fun time, every time! Beautiful venue. If you like good music, it is definitely the place to go.
Make the Falcon located in Marlboro, NY a destination that must not be missed in the Hudson Valley. Set in an old button factory, Tony Falco has made a first rate jazz and blues club that is worth the trip for any music buff. With a waterfall right outside by the deck, great local wines, beers, and food choices, and professional music that will blow you away in the perfect listening room environment. The musicians play for donations from a box that is set up in the back by the bar area, and the acts that play at the Falcon are top shelf blues and jazz acts that would command much more if they played in New York City. I fell in love with this place and plan to make the trek up from the city as much as I can to support these musicians and this fabulous establishment. Go the The Falcon!
up close with world-class musicians in an inviting atmosphere improved with good food and great service. place had a great buzz.
Classic music venue featuring world class artists. Best of all, no cover, just pay as you like (suggested $20). Food was pretty good as was service, considering how crowded the place gets. A really fun place to hang with people who appreciate good music.
This venue is known as the "The Falcon" to locals and the Falcon is pretty good. This is a place that you just want to be generous to in a review. What a wonderful concept: Bring good music (with no cover) to the mid Hudson valley with a dinner theater atmosphere. World class musicians frequently stop here for sure but on a day to day basic check who is playing carefully before making the trip. Yes free music is always good but knowing who is playing allows you manage your expectations as the acts can be inconsistent. Other than the music, enjoy the food which is fine especially if you sit on the patio with the stream running underneath.Service is really good and drinks affordable. All in all a good place to spend a couple of hours listening to free live music. PS., also try the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling if you are interested in great music nearby.
