Took the family to Five Rivers and went to the buildings and also walked the Nature trails and looked at the wild life and also the trees turning different colors
Yesterday was my first time at five rivers. Me and my boyfriend walked almost all the trails. The beaver trail is my favorite.
This is a quiet park just south of Albany NY that is made up of a great series of trails and paths that are for walking or running only. This adds to the peacefulness of this little gem of a park. My favorite time to go is early in the morning as the wildlife and birds are all a little more active. There are times that I may be the only person in the entire park which adds to the solitude I look forward to at Five Rivers. There are also plenty of park sponsored programs available for both the young and old.
We came to Five Rivers to spend the day hiking. There are 6 or 7 good hikes in this preserve. Most of them are pretty short, but 2 of them were a bit longer. We hiked 5 of the trails today, and I believe it came out to 8 miles. The cool thing about all of the different trails is that you get to experience different environments and ecosystems. You hike through forest, meadows, around a creek, around a beaver pond, through swampy areas. There are a lot of great things to explore and learn. We saw a ton of bluebirds and chipmunks, as well as some turtles in the beaver pond and some garter snakes on the Wild Turkey trail. I can foresee my husband bringing some of his college classes out here for the experience in the future.
Love everything about 5 Rivers in every season. This is a wonderful place to be outdoors. There are trails of many distances and difficulty. It is a terrific place for cross country skiing. The educational center is small but full of interesting information. Great for all ages.
I have enjoyed this nature preserve for 30 years, walking with my children as they grew. Lots of educational programs, a wheelchair accessible trail, a lovely bird watching area. Beautiful in every season.
WE frequent Five rivers with our boys. There are quite a few different hikes to take of different lengths. The ones we like best are those around ponds. The boys love to see the turtles, frogs, tadpoles, geese, fish and other animals around the nature preserve. The trails are well maintained and there is also a little center to stop in and view the live owl, turtles and other stuffed animals. good for teaching. There is even a handicapped accessible trail.
All of the above, except the geese. They are nasty! But unless they have babies around, you're good. We go here about once a month. The entire Five Rivers property is well maintained, the trails vary from around a pond to through a field. We love to do the loop around the pond and stop on "turtle bridge" with some bread to toss to the turtles. The most we ever counted was 12!!! That's little painted/box turtles and huge algae covered snapping turtles. We also love the trail down the hill by all the streams and the road that goes back to what we call the frog ponds. Don't forget to check out the Visitor Center, no matter how old you are, kids or not. There is a one-eyed rescue owl who would love to see you. Trails are easy, just a few short hills here and there.
Had a great visit to the Five Rivers center. We rode our bikes along the old rail line and then cut over onto Orchard St via Union St. Beautiful ride. Took a guided walk through the site and spent time at the visitors' center. We've been here before for their yearly festival which is great for kids (4-9yrs old) Lots of great crafts and activities - and the kids didn't even know they were learning! I heard the moonlight boy scout walk is amazing.
