I love to see things that take me back to my childhood that I saw around my grandma's house. I enjoy seeing things from times past!
Crowded with lots of historic and not so historic but interesting finds from indian artifacts to farm machinery and everything in between to interest both myself and my partner. We enjoyed a couple of hours in the main building and I wandered through the one room schoolhouse, general store, and other buildings while my partner marveled at the farm implements. Well worth the stop.
This place has a great selection of pieces and it was fun to see all of the old familiar items that we knew from growing up displayed in the general store shelves.
Hard to find but well worth looking for South across hwy 6 from the visitor center next to the best western
This is a great "little"museum. Absolutely packed with local character, covers prehistory to modern history, Has a great main building chocked full of items, lovely outdoor space with various outbuildings, a fun 4th of July event, near the interstate, a nice park, the Visitor's Center, walking trails and motels. A great for locals and visitors, even if just passing through the region is worth a stop.
Thoughtful and knowledgeable staff. Greatly done to take me though time and nature, of a place of my great grandparents, and now me
It is a small museum but filled with local community goodies. There are several out buildings that one can view. They have a collection of the brands from the community burned onto the walls of the old barn. My husband and I got married there 7 years ago. It has a beautiful grounds and you can just feel the past all around you.
I passed by this unassuming museum many times without stopping until I finally went with a friend. Walking in the front door I thought $3 for this little place isn't too bad. Lots of memorabilia...pieces of local history. But there are more rooms beyond to explore! And buildings. And farm equipment. What a gem! I loved the general store with so many old items! I was amazed how structures are brought from other locations and planted. The gas station...wow! Spend some time at the wonderful museum. Best $3 you'll spend today.
$3 entry fee is worth every penny and then some. We were traveling through Colorado and stopped here for a break, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Lots of very interesting artifacts and buildings.
One of the most amazing, interesting museums ever. Seriously. Set up like a small town. These people have dumped a ton of money into it. Mostly donations, but a top-notch attraction in the middle of nowhere.
This small Museum has many old buildings that house a great many artifacts of days gone by. It shows the history of the area in an entertaining way. The price is very reasonable , only $3.00/adult. Great way to spend a few hours.
The museum name is somewhat misleading as it does not have too much to do with the Overland Trail. It is an excellent museum of Sterling and the area. The young woman manning the front desk was very friendly, giving us a short intro to the museum. It was constructed by the WPA in the '30's. Outside of the main building, there are 12 different buildings - blacksmith shop, barn, and so on. I especially liked the display of branding irons.Unlike many small museums, the displays are well done and are not just a bunch of items stuck in a building.Well worth the small admission fee. The only negative is that here were not signs in town to guide you to the museum.
My daughter and I toured this museum yesterday and were very impressed. It consists of several buildings full of collections and the best part is the outside of the main area, where there are historical buildings along a very nice walkway, consisting of a blacksmith, general store, schoolhouse, church, service station, print shop, barns, and an historical house. All of these buildings are set up in the time period they come from and are complete with much information. We will definitely be going back. The $3 admission is more than fair and the grounds were clean and well-kept.
Antiques, memerobilia, it was such fun with seeing all the ways people lived in the past. The history of Sterling was interesting to my children.
For a small museum in a small town, you will be pleasantly surprised how well they have organized the exhibits. Many of the buildings are actual buidings from the area that have been moved to become one of the exhibits. Some of my favorites are the one room school house and the old barn.
