Some of the art work is reproductions, but its a nice place to stroll about and enjoy the art work. The art work is mostly sculptures and almost all of it is outdoors and free. It is located around the Englewood City Hall. It a great place to take the kids. This day I took my dog with me. It is a true hidden gem in the city.
I've worked in Greenwood Village and called on clients with offices there. I've never understood the reproduction sculptures scattered around the office parks. It makes it pleasant for the office workers, I suppose.
This small museum inside the Englewood Civic Center is a joy. We viewed a kite exhibit and a wonderful small gallery of trinkets that were both charming and enriching. And it was free! We liked it so much that we left a donation. The outdoor sculpture is special, too. There are sculptures all over town that young children love to explore. Many are reproductions of well-known Italian sculptures.
Be sure to see all 3 locations: the indoor gallery on the second floor of the Englewood City Center (above the library), the outdoor sculptures placed around the City Center, and the outdoor sculptures in Samson Park at Greenwood Plaza (by the Comfort Dental Amphitheatre). The gallery worker at the indoor gallery was very helpful and informative. We enjoyed seeing the artists' studios, as well as all of the works of art, indoors and out, especially the Alice in Wonderland pieces.
I really enjoyed seeing Joellyn Duesberry's work at the museum. Also, I really enjoyed seeing the museum's outdoor exhibit at Samson Park. I was able to see some of Patrick Dougherty's work there!
We planned a day trip to denver, went to the museum's website and printed off maps to where their outdoor art sculptures would be. It was very difficult to find. The first area in Greenwood Plaza we could not find at all! But we did not let that discourage us as our next stop was City Center - we figured we couldn't go wrong finding this place since it's right next to their main office. Wrong! We go there and found only 3 of the sculptures! The map shows 21 ! We are good with directions and all 21 are suppose to be pretty close together. Where were they? We even went to the top of the rail station bridge to get a birds eye view of what we weren't finding. Nothing to be found. I know they have traveling art displays around the city. If this was the case with these sculptures they should have at least updated the map on their website. We were disappointed but still glad we saw 3 so it wasn't a total wasted trip, just a much shorter and disappointed one.
