We attended a family wedding reception here in September and had a great time. The dance floor and bar was outside under a tent while dinner was served indoors. I can honestly say the food was probably the best of any wedding we had ever been to.

... this is a definite to be played course!... for our golf group this one is a wow!... right off the first tee. Beautiful layout with a well kept course and warm staff. Nicely priced. Easy to get to when visiting the Ocean City MD area. Happy travels.

It was a great experience to play in this course. We went there in October, which was off season, and the course was not crowded. All the staff were so friendly. There was a snack shack near the club house. We played the Kodiak and then the Black Bear. Both were in excellent condition. We saw maintenance people in several holes. The course was challenging for me (high handicap). The green was very fast. But I enjoyed it. I'll definitely go back.

Our golf group has been coming to the area for 17 years. Bear Trap Dunes is a great course. We were treated great by all at the course. We will most certainly play this course on future visits.

We stayed at the town homes within this resort community for a one week vacation. We booked 3 different tee-times for this course and I never been treated so terribly like I did at this place. We were a foursome including my almost 80 yr old father-in-law and after the first few holes an employee (with a goofy fluorescent green shirt) drove up to us and began reprimanding us that we were not playing quickly enough which I feel we were. (We finished 9 holes in 2 hrs 10 minutes). He followed us to the next hole and was yelling for us to hurry up again even tho there was a foursome ahead of us on the green. He told us "I don't care if people are on the green, just hit the ball and if it hits them, too bad". He then followed us to the next hole and began yelling at my father-in-law because two of his cart tires were off the edge of the cart path and was questioning us as to whether we knew what a 90 degree angle was. None of us lost our cool with this idiot since we were playing "vacation-golf" this was not any tournament or even league play and this A.H. was following us from hole to hole yelling at us to hurry. We just said "ok", but as soon as we finished I cancelled our other two tee-times since there was no way I was going to give this course another $400 of my money. There are numerous other courses in the area, I would suggest you go to one of those courses as we did.

The Den at Bear Trap Dunes has had different management over the years. But now the restaurant has found a home and great food. Located at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course off Central Avenue in Ocean View, the restaurant has found an excellent new management in Troon Golf. Part of the food and drink service is related to the golf course and golfers. A lot of this activity takes place in a nice bar and out doors seating with an excellent choice of beer, wine and mixed drinks and a bar menu. The restaurant is for golfers, too, but is not private, and anyone and all are welcome, including families, and likely reservations can be made. The new menu is terrific and changes at times. The food preparations is excellent and the menu choices are many, including several specialty soups. A wood burning oven allows the offering of fresh pizza and other Italian items but the restaurant tends to be more cosmopolitan with several seafood and beef items. Sometimes not as busy as it could be, there are still potential customers who have not found this restaurant. It is worth the try and usually you will have immediate seating. Several times there will be entertainment in the bar or restaurant side. The service is excellent; the atmosphere a little stark, but friendly. The food is great, presented nicely, and worth a try.

The clubhouse and greens are very good! But that's the extent of my praise for this overrated golf course. We got what seemed like a really good online rate for this $100+ course, so I took advantage of it. I won't be doing that again. At the bag drop, there were 3 gentlemen in their neon green Bear Trap shirts, but none offered to help with our bags, so we waited, and eventually took care of our own bags. We couldn't find parking in the tiny golf course parking lot, so we drove around until we found a spot on a nearby street in the adjacent community. The clubhouse (and pro shop) were better than most, so I got jazzed up about the round after visiting the clubhouse, but that was short-lived. The range ball machine didn't work properly, so we only got half the balls we were supposed to get, and the employee standing right there agreed that it didn't dispense properly, but didn't offer to fix the problem for us. When we teed off, I noticed from 200 yards away that the fairway bunkers hadn't been raked in forever, and the old sand had eroded badly. It turns out that those were the best bunkers on the entire course. The layout of the course itself was probably very nice when the course was new, but because of the poor condition of the sand traps and common areas and roughs and waste areas, it's hard to notice the layout. This course is loaded with enormous bunkers and waste areas, some of which are several acres in size, and are now either hard-pan, or under a foot of standing water, or have a mish-mash of lousy elements, or are mud and quicksand so deep and gross you can't begin to stand in it or even retrieve your ball out of it. And it would be easy to explain this away as a result of a hard rain from earlier in the week, or an intentional change toward a more Crenshaw-esque natural layout, but it seemed obvious to us that they've just neglected everything on this course but the greens. That seems to be the trend these days, but in my humble opinion, it's a bad trend, and it's not a trend we should see on a course in this price range. There wasn't a single beverage cart during the entire round. On the most beautiful summer day of the year, there was no beverage cart? Hard to imagine at a resort course. When we drove to our tee shots on number 15 (?), an older Marshall with a scowl on his face bee-lined toward us, drove past my cart, and with his best scary voice, said this to my playing partners in the other cart: "Do you have something in your cart that doesn't belong to you?" We were a bit startled by his accusatory tone, and Rick answered, "I don't think so." The Marshall said "someone left sunglasses in a cart yesterday," and he drove off. No thank you or sorry or anything else. Just attitude and off he went. Are you kidding me? So I agree with "bjfitz" review about the elderly militants. Of course, when we finished our round, the 3 guys who didn't help us before the round were only too happy to "clean" our clubs after it, because they get more tips that way. Even at the discounted price we paid, we probably won't be back any time soon. Very disappointing.

Was there this past Friday and had a wonderful time. The golf course is exceptional. The greens are well maintained and the course is a scenic gem. The club house is very nice and staff was super friendly. Food in restaurant was also very good. I would recommend if you are a golfer, you should definitely try Bear Trap!

Food was good. Not your ordinary menu. Soup was delicious, but not as hot as it should have been. Service was slow. It seemed to be the kitchen that could not keep up. Waitstaff was very friendly.Would definitely try again.

The place is run by elderly militants. We stayed here with our 2 tween kids and the place is one of the worst places we have ever stayed in terms of it being relaxing. Going to the pool it seems requires you to go through a metal detector. It just is not very friendly. Sort of like one of those nasty retirement places in FLA. I would not recommend staying here unless you like being bothered all the time.

This was our second trip to Bear Trap Dunes - this time we played the Black Bear and Grizzly courses. As usual, check in was quick and efficient and we were on the course in no time. Excellent condition despite the rain of the last few days. Some spots were a little squishy. Dried out a bit by noon. The course is wide open, with wide fairways on many holes. Bunkers and water are strategically placed. There is an array of tee boxes to fit any ability. Greens were great, and readable. Pace was fine; no back-ups. This is a scenic course that is very fair with great greens. For those traveling back north via the Cape May - Lewes ferry it is only a short ride to catch the ferry, and going south bound it is easy to get to - figure less than an hour after the ferry lands. We can't comment on price because we were in a package, but for what we paid - we loved it.

This place is expensive and the food mediocre. I had to return an order of fried calamari because it was cold. The food is never good. Won't return. If I pay these high prices I expect great food.

After we played the horrible Bay Club West for $75 the next day we played the Bear Trap Dunes for $20 more. Worth every penny The course was in fabulous shape The conditions, the fairway and the greens were beautifully manicured A great golf experience. By far not an easy course but worth the challenge.

CWimer62

Nice layout and the course was in very good condition, Very challenging. Not recommended for high handicappers. The pace of play was brutal. Rangers were non-existent.
