We had a great time looking in the windows and reading the notices about this place. A very colorful history and very recent too. Get your picture taken out front and enjoy the fun. Best for adult audiences.
A fascinating look at the very real and tough life led by the "sporting ladies" in this mining town. And it took the invasion of 150 FBI agents to bring this phase of history to an end.
This was a fun and different tour. An interesting look into how this type of business operated both in the old days and into more current times. Not really a tour I would recommend for children.
Our guide Eva explained that after 100 years of operation, one day in 1988 the working girls and madame left for an FBI raid and never returned. They left everything behind -- skimpy lingerie, makeup, rate sheet, even their groceries. All contents were basically left intact until new owners made it into a museum. Eva showed us how clients were received, the rooms where the girls lived and worked, the madame's hermit abode and the system for collecting the money. My favorite artifact was the collection of egg timers, each with a girl's name on it, that stood by the cash box.
Fascinating and fun. An exceptionally personable and informative guide! He really made the tour with some great anecdotes.
tour seemed vary authentic, guide was knowledgeable. hard to believe this business stayed in operation until the 1980s
We saw this on a travel show and thought if we ever got out that way we would take a look. There is a small admission charge ($5) and there a tour that will take you upstairs to the bordello that ran until 1988 when the girls had to skedaddle after a tip of an upcoming FBI raid. It is maintained exactly like the girls left it in a hurry with cigarettes still in ashtrays and groceries on the counter. As I said it's a hoot!
I read a lot of reviews before I went and realized it was worthy of a stop. We enjoyed this museum very much. It was $5 and guided and just took about 20 minutes from start to finish. It isn't what you expect and you learn a lot about a side of life that few are familiar with. We consider it a highlight of a fantastic day of touring in Wallace ID. For $5 and 20 mins it is worth pulling in off the highway for.
I had looked forward to seeing this one of a kind museum, but when I arrived the first obstacle I noticed was a high concrete step with no railing. I figured I could navigate the step some how as seeing the outside and looking in made me want to see more. The clerk saw my dilemma and said no sense coming in as the first floor is only a gift shop. The museum requires going up a flight of stairs. Cancer has left me in a wheelchair so that ended my much anticipated visit to the museum.I travel several months of the year, and this is the first time I have run across an older building with no means for someone with mobility issues to enter. Often a portable ramp is stowed nearby and can be quickly put out and removed and a manual elevator fits into a small space. I was really disappointed!!! Thanks to the Tripadvisor reviewers for the photos.
My sister and I were in Northern Idaho and were surprised to see what must be a one of a kind museum. We were told that it was in operation until 1988 when the FBI came to town. Because the "girls" were warned that they may be raided they left in a hurry leaving everything behind and that is what you see in this house. This is a different place but definitely a part of history. Our guide was very good and probably told us more than normal as we were just two gals with open minds. Don't pay your $5 if you might be offended but a must if you are interested in something different and interesting.
A friend and I visited this museum and were surprised to find that such a place existed. It was enlightening and we felt we were fortunate to learn so much about a topic not usually discussed. If you go to Wallace you really should not miss this attraction.
The tour was great and full of great history. Thanks to our tour guide, a must for Wallace history.I liked everything about it, but I guess some may be offended by what type of business it was, so be sure you are aware of what a brothel truly is before entering.
We took a tour of this "museum" which is actually just a low rent house of prostitution left just as it was in 1988. The guide took us around, breathlessly recounting the day-to-day habits of the prostitutes and pointing out their pathetic, tawdry outfits, wigs, and make-up. The whole time, I kept thinking, "Really???" The place also didn't look very clean.Go on the mine tour instead. It's interesting and very well done.
This bordello was abandoned in 1988. The rooms still have personal belongings and clothes from the last girls who worked there as they had to leave in a hurry and couldn't come back. It is a very good tour, the guide was great, giving lots of facts from the history of the place. I recommend this tour to anyone who is spending time in Wallace!
Not the best $5 we have spent in the US but close.Maybe not everyone's idea of something to tour round but we enjoyed it.I sheepishly asked a few questions about the menu that was on t-shirts and listed on the walls and the lady said they had enquired about the same with ladies that had worked there,if you don't ask you don't find out.We recommend a visit if in the town.
