This is a nice little history museum. We enjoyed watching the film about the making of the viking ship and there was an interesting display on Fargo/Moorhead during WWII. This isnt the best place for little kids, my five year old nephew lasted about fifteen minutes before he was ready to leave. They also have a nice gift shop

A great place to stop to see the replica viking ship which actually sailed back to Norway several years ago. Inexpensive. Also some neat things in the basement about the history of Moorhead and Clay County.

If you have never experienced Norwegian culture before, be sure to stop by. It's a really great taste of Norwegian-American immigrant culture here in the valley. Really beautiful exhibit.

Having grown up in the area, I've been the center several times. It's great to learn about the history of the Norwegians who make up a large percentage of the population here. It's also a well done museum and a great attraction in the Fargo/Moorhead area.

Definitely worth visiting on your way through the Fargo/Moorhead area. Lots of history (national and local). Excellent for kids, and adults. The Stave Church is a great addition, and is definitely a unique opportunity.

I have wanted to visit for a long time - the movie is very informative - tells the entire story of the ship. This actually more interesting than the ship itself. The guide for the church tour was well informed. I especially liked the art gallery. Very nice works displayed.

Having been to the Norway museum in Oslo, I was interested in seeing if there was anything new to learn at Hjemkomst Center. It was worth the stop. There was a very good tour of the Hopperstad Stave Church which was built in 1998 and is a replica of the 1150 church in Vik Norway. The guide was excellent. The focal point of the museum is the Hjemkomst Ship which is a replica built in Minnesota that sailed to Norway. Be sure to watch the video about the building of the ship and it's voyage. We happened to be there on Leif Erickson day and got great pictures with a "Viking"

I've been through Fargo-Moorhead many times but had missed this attraction. I has more time this trip and notice the sign as I was driving from Minnesota, so I stopped. Features include a replica Norwegian Stave Church (be sure to get the guided tour!) and a replica Norwegian ship that was sailed to Norway to demonstrate how the Vikings did it. Wow!

We visited on Saturday, September 13, 2014. We had read about this at an online source about roadside attractions in the US. We wanted to see the Viking ship.The admission is $8.00 each and for such a small center, we thought it was expensive. First they want you to watch a film about the ship, about 30 minutes, and that is the only way to get a guide to escort you into the stave church out back. The rest of the museum is a rehash of WWII with displays and local connections to the war. The other part is a museum of quilts.If we had to do it all over again we would have walked into the building and turned left. Well before you get to the admission counter is a perfectly good viewing area of the ship. We could have taken our pictures and left. You can also go around the exterior of the stave church by just walking around the building from the parking lot. In my opinion this place is overrated and over priced.

Wow there were so many things to do here. The movie is very worthwhile. And they said to us "come quick quick and the movie just started. And you can pay after you see the movie". The movie was very nice brought tears to my eyes. Then we toured the ship. Then we visited the nice Stave church. We had a great tour of that. It was very pretty and interesting to see. Then we had lunch on site. After that we toured the quilt exhibit, and the World War II exhibit. Everything was very interesting and it was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon ..done very well. And easy to get around.

If you are in Moorhead or Fargo, visiting Hjemkomst is a must. The Viking Ship and the Stave Chrurch are unbelievable. You cannot appreciate them without seeing them in person. I am extremely jpleased that I ttook the time.

I enjoyed visiting Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center. The movie about the family who built the ship; the children who carried on after their father's death and made the trans Atlantic journery were very moving and inspirational. The ship was quite interesting to see. The Church also was interesting to take a guided tour of. In addition, there is a small museum to visit as well.I got the Fargo-Morehead passsport that allows you to visit several attractions in the area for the total cost of $8.00. Parking is nearby the museum.

I love going to the Hjemkomst Museum, there is so much to see there. There is always special events like the Scandinavian Fest weekend coming up June 27-29 which I always attend.

Ms Rebecca gave us a tour of the Stave Church, next to the Viking ship display. It's a must see! She is a very spunky senior with a great personality! Thank you Ms Rebecca! We really enjoyed your tour!

While we arrived too early to tour the main building or the Stave Church interior, we were able to walk around the site. The architecture and carvings on the exterior were incredible. The roof of the main building makes the location of the replica ship quite apparent and seeing the inside of the main facility would likely be very interesting, but the exterior of the church was worth the time to detour there from our route and the time invested walking around it was well spent.
