Red Hook Brewery looks impressive from the outside, but not so much once you're in. This review is just of the beers and tour, as we did not eat there. The interior pub area is very nice, modern. The tour was the most lackluster brewery tour we have ever had. The tour guide had her canned spiel, sped through it, although having a positive attitude, it was very brief and robotic. They walk you upstairs into a conference room looking area that has a window looking out to a tiled room that is built around 3 big tanks that you can only see the top of. We then had the option to try 4 beers - 2 of which were part of the sampler beers we had just tried in the pub while waiting for the tour. You also got a souvenir glass - an unexpected perk. The place is huge so we were really curious about the operation, but didn't get to see it at all. I know everyone has different taste in beers, and all we tried were the ones on the sampler platter, but we found them not as flavorful as many craft breweries in general... personal taste I suppose.
Saw an ad for this place on a local town map and decided to give it a try. We arrived a little early for the beer tour, so we decided to have some food and wait for the next tour. We had a great little lunch outside on a huge patio. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. The tour was fantastic. We had a 2 for 1 coupon so we did the tour for a total of $5 for two people. The tour guide was funny and had a wealth of knowledge. The beer tastings were fantastic. It was a nice relaxing tour, we were not rushed and no pressure to purchase additional items. Highly recommended.
Decided to try this place out on a ride home from visiting friends. The food was good and the beer was better. I was a little disappointed that the beers my husband and I liked the most were not available in a growler, but such is life. I would recommended this place and will be returning.
We went for a beer tasting and to eat. We didnt take the tour this time. We got samplers which were 6 different ones to try. They were all pretty good. We had lunch there. I was not impressed with the lunch. Three of us got three different lunches. None of us liked them. But the brews were excellent
Took the brewery tour. Delicious beer. Nice tour. Low key and fun. Restaurant downstairs to continue the fun. Great value and there's a coupon on the map at your hotel, 2for1.
Had a good friend visiting and was looking for something different to do. Found the Redhook Brewery and Cataqua Public House online and decided to take a ride to check it out. Had a great lunch and then took the tour. Lots of fun and many wonderful brews to try. Would definitely recommend you add this to your list of things to do!
We had a hard time finding the brewery (the signage is poor) so we arrived two minutes late for the brewery tour. An employee at the gift shop register where tickets are purchased wasn't helpful at all; he was obviously on his way to take a break. We were told we would have to wait for the next tour, which was an hour away. We decided to stay and have a beer in their restaurant. When we finally took the tour, we were about 10 minutes into the tour when a couple showed up late. The tour itself wasn't worth the wait. We concluded that it's probably just a draw to get people into the restaurant. Can't recommend it.
Probably the best and most informative brewery tour ever! We had an amazing time here. Would recommend it to anyone in the area that loves brew!
We were staying with good friends ( we are from the uk) and they know I love food and especially street food. I was so excited to go ..what a load of rubbish! It cost $ 5 to get in each, not an issue but we had no idea where this money went to. if it was charity fine but it wasn't. it was money for nothing. There were basically a few trucks with queues of so many people about an hour long minimum I guess . The food looked poor and we looked around at everything ( as it took no time as so small) , the french fries looked totally Inedible , the portions looked tiny everywhere , none of us could decide what we would want to eat as nothing looked desirable. We started to queue and after ten minutes moved not a step. We left ..got fresh lobsters from the bridge in York harbour that were delicious and cost about the same for 5 of us to eat from a truck.I think this was a very poor effort, the live band was ok and worked very hard but there was nothing else except a small face painting tent . Appalling .... I LOVE truck food but this was dire . I enjoyed the ambiance as was with good friends so it was an experience but when we left even more people, were being let in for what????? you would be starving . Sort it out as it could be fantastic but this was a rip off .
Paid 2 visits here - first during the day for the brewery tour which takes 35 - 45 minutes which was very informative and the beer tasting at the end wasn't bad either!!! Second visit was in the evening for food, although there isn't a big selection on the menu, I defy anyone not to find something they could eat. The food came up hot, the beer cold and the service very attentive. Definitely worth a third visit!!!!
Recently I was at Redhook for a wedding reception. No sooner we got off the shuttle we were seized of our beverages whether they were beer, water, soda, etc. they did a lot to help the bride and groom out with the wedding day however they did not seem to be wedding ready. The bartenders were wearing cargo shorts and button up tshirts. Guys you're holding a wedding. The food for the reception was great. I would go back for the salmon in a heart beat.
The tour was informative, and we got to sample 4 different types of beer, some of which were only available at the brewery. I would definitely recommend.
This was our first visit to the Redhook Brewery and I was impressed. We got there early and had a beer at the bar. We had already eaten lunch but looked at the menu anyway. The menu looked good and from the food I saw coming out of the kitchen the food looked good. Our tour of the brewery was excellent and our tour guide did outstanding job. He was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and entertaining. The real star of the show is the beer. Redhook makes some excellent beers worth trying. Stop in, have a beer, and take the tour, you won't be disappointed.
We came here on Friday night to do the tour and get some food afterward. The tour is now $5 per person, be aware of that. $1 tour is no longer. Our tour was pretty quick, some interesting facts were given during it and our guide was personable and funny. He also understood that most of us were here to taste some beer so after there were no more questions, it was "beer time." I appreciated that. We had a tasting of four beers, all of which were good. There was a truly exceptional Dark Rye, from the experimental small brew section next to the tasting area. It's only available on tap on location here in Portsmouth and when it's gone, there is no more. After the tour, we went and had dinner. All of the food was good. The appetizers seemed a bit overpriced for what we received. The entrees were properly sized and very tasty. The service was overall good. It was super busy and our server did her best to keep up with everyone.Overall, a good tour and good food. The beer is what makes it better than average.
This is a good place to get a bite of food and taste an assortment of drafts. We had some wings that had nice flavor. We also had the beer sample tray which had an assortment of 6 different styles. The staff was friendly and informative. We had a nice time visiting and passing the time, and when I get over to the Northeast for a visit, I will be back.
