There are only limited visiting days. However, it is very close to central Portsmouth and well worth the minor inconvenience.Owned by members of the same family and given intact, it presents a snap shot of their lives over many years. The furniture was bought for the house, with some additions. There is a fascinating collection of items conceived by the famous Mr. Rumford.A cultural history bonanza.
This was another wonderful house tour, with informed staff and furnished with charm. Its right in town and you really get a feel for the time period when Portsmouth was a booming port city. One of many great houses to visit in town.
It is really hard to get to see the Rundlett-May house as it is open infrequently - only the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from June through October. However, this house is really a treasure. It is an authentic home that was occupied by members of the same family from colonial times into the 20th century. The house is wonderfully preserved, and the gardens are amazing. The tour of the house takes an hour, and allow a little time to walk around outside as well. It is located a short walk from downtown Portsmouth. The organization that owns the house owns several other houses in the Portsmouth area including the Governor Langdon mansion - we bought a membership and have seen 3 of their properties so far. If you love historic homes, it is worth the extra cost. This is not suitable for small children - or for people who have trouble with stairs.
This house is often closed but hang in thereastshis is a interesting House tour of one of Portsmouth's early families. The historic info is good and improving.
