The Alexander Kasser Theater, on the campus of Montclair State University is a wonderful performance arts space and a cultural site to attend. It seats only 500 and is intimate and warm. The sound and lighting was perfect for a dance evening in October. The Peak Performance series for 2014/15 is in full swing and many fine national artists and troupes are on the bill. Parking is abundant and attached to the space. The campus is beautiful and the staff were helpful and friendly. The University is located in Upper Montclair, NJO and is easily accessed from Route 46 in Great Notch. A venue to get to know better.
We feel so fortunate to have this beautiful. comfortable theater located so close to us. Not only is it comparable to NYC theaters, but there are always buses from there coming to performances. The prices are low and the many types of shows being put on are interesting and different. I highly recommend that you look over their upcoming programs and attend as many as you can.
This is a very comfortable theater with great sight lines and very good acoustics. The only slight negative is while the parking is next to the theater in the parking deck, if the event is at the same time as university classes, traffic can be a challenge.
A great addition to the campus of Montclair State University. Have attended many different events at the theater and it has always been a very pleasant experience.
Gave a lecture here to a group of about 350. Theater is very modern, very comfortable, and appears to have reasonable acoustics. It is certainly a nice addition to the MSU campus.
Great venue! You can see and hear well from any of the seats. The parking garage (Red Hawk Deck) is attached, so it’s perfect no matter what the weather. You don’t have to walk far, and it’s always beautiful, clean and comfortable. I would recommend it for any event;dance, music, movie, lecture or play. While you’re on the MSU campus, depending on the day and time also check out the Segal Art Gallery just next door to the theatre and also accessible by the 4th floor of the parking deck.
Performances are regularly reviewed and praised in the New York Times. Prices are generally a flat $15 for any seat in the house, almost all of which are really good. Mostly cutting edge or unusual productions of music, performance pieces, dance and some theater are the staples, with consummate professionals doing the performing. The Shanghai Quartet is a twice-a-year regular, mixing the usual classical repertoire with modern pieces and occasional Chinese guests. I would venture to say that this theater is worth a detour from almost anywhere.
Affordable shows, renown performers. Parking on-site. I am never disappointed with the performances.
My friends and I went to see Zinnias : The Life of Clementine Hunter ( Robert Wilson opera , music by Bernice Johnson Reagon and Toshi Reagon ) . Lovely theater with comfortable seats and excellent site-lines . Nice place, wish it was closer.
This theater is beautiful, small and so well-designed. The Peak Performance series offers adventurous programming at super reasonable prices --- from $10 to $15. The dance is especially well chosen.
There are a few gems each season, along with the occasional bizarre performance, but at $15 a ticket you'll feel free to ditch any show at intermission.
This must be our 6th time to this wonderful, modern, theatre on the campus of Montclair University. It is a beautiful space, very modern, and ALL the seat prices are just $15.00.If you book for an upcoming event early, you might wind up with front row seats, which we have many times. We have also sat in the balcony, and had no problem seeing and hearing everything. It has all kinds of theatre, which is sure to interest everyone's different tastes, and includes dance recitals. It's handicapped accessible, has a small snack bar, and the parking garage, which is a separate charge, is attached to the theatre. You really can't go wrong, what with the price. After the show you are only a few minutes away from downtown Montclair, with its many restaurants and coffee houses. I would highly recommend visiting this theatre. You can get on their mailing list and will be send a program for upcoming events. For $15.00, you can't go wrong.
大学に通う友人から誘われて行ってみました。大きなシアターではありませんが、外はシンプル、中は開放的で重厚感も有り素晴らしい施設でした。音楽や演劇などで使われているそうで、次回は是非公演を楽しみに訪れたいと思います。
