We visited off season so the park was quite deserted. There are very nice electric hook up campsites, showers, and a nice nature trail. Looks like it would hopping in the summer!
The lakes are gorgeous and photogenic. We stopped during our drive from Carlsbad to Roswell and it was a perfect way to give the kids a chance to play and run around. The trail heads aren't easy to find and I'm not sure how great the hiking is. We followed GPS and it took us to the camping area, which had lots of do not enter signs, so we drove around the lake to get some better views. We apparently found the place where people squat and enjoy bottled beer as there was a lot of broken glass around. Despite all of that negativity, I am so glad we stopped as it was a beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert. In warmer months, it was obvious that this park was a great place to swim and picnic... we were just too early for that.
The "lakes" are holes in the roof of a water filled cavern. I was surprised there are actually fish in these lakes. The visitors center is a must; there is excellent explanations of the structures and info on the Pecos diamonds. Have fun diamond hunting.
We were unsure if we would have a spot for the RV as the web site said one spot left, no more online reservations. There were plenty of spots. February doesn't offer much for fishing but the lake had just been stocked. Nice view of the lake and good facilities. Our gravel spot was level :-) Cost was $14 for the spot (picnic covered area and grill) and $10 for the car. Shower and bath area was OK except for over flowed toilet - not sure whose fault.
We stopped here on a lark on our way out of Roswell. Beautiful views and stunning lakes surrounded by rocks and desert. Very friendly staff in the visitors center. Great place to stop if you are traveling with a dog. We did some of the trails and drove around to see the lakes. Tons of picnic tables. Great swimming location if you have the time.
Driving out to the park we didn't know what to expect. We just kept drivng and driving. When we finally got the the park it was amazing! The lake was beautiful! It was really refreshing! The swim area was clean, well maintained. There is a nice covered area to have a picnic that surrounds the complete swimming area.
We drove through this state park and were impressed with the views of the lake. Being out in the middle of nowhere we weren't expecting much but this was a nice surprise.
Beautiful!!!! Wear your hiking boots and take a hike! Great trails and you can climb around all the smaller lakes along the trails. Beautiful even in the winter. Best 5 dollars spent!
I love that you can swim or rent equipment to go out on the lake. Clean environment. Grills to cook on or just bring sandwich stuff. Love all the different sights there.
Visited this place with my sons while they were cadets at NMMI so it is a special place to us. Water seems to be always clear and cool. Have never seen it crowded, it is a drive from town, but it must be busy in the summertime. Well worth the trip, highly recommend it. Nostalgic.
Wow what a surprise this was when we arrived.Natural beauty located off the road.Clean,RV spaces,swimming/picnic area and trails to walk.Great family place.
This is a must see in Roswell. We've been going for generations and the kids loved it as much as we did.
Exploring the township of Roswell one evening, we saw the sign for Bottomless Lakes, and decided with a quirky name like that it was worth a short drive to check it out, and we were not disappointed. It is a gorgeous place with interesting colouring and terrific photo opportunities at sunset. We found a quiet spot beside one of the lakes, pulled up a chair, and chilled in the warm evening and setting sun. Beautiful!!Only downside - mosquito's were a real annoyance, so definitely take some repellent.
This was a lot of fun to go and see while you are in Roswell. The park is gorgeous and completely wide open. It is definitely worth the short drive outside of Roswell.
Its a decent detour, lakes are ok, created from sinkholes. worth a visit, lea lake seems to be a good recreation area
