To cold to swim but just a neat place with steps into water. Nice park. Neat town to drive around and look at architecture
Interesting stop to make if traveling thru Santa Rosa, NM. Easy to find. Crystal clear blue water. Great place for scuba divers to check out. Especially for certification.
The Blue Hole is an area attraction for scuba divers and swimmers. The 65 degree year round temperature of the water makes it a good place for people to scuba dive...it is some 80 ft deep. Several picnic tables nearby. Good place for summer visits.
I've heard about Blue Hole for years, from friends who went there for diving certification, and loved it. Didn't know there's also a nearby "swimming hole" recreational pool for non-divers; that looked like fun.Blue Hole's water was crystal clear, and had two diving "targets." Very natural surroundings.
Crystal-clear cold and clean water. Visited on a Thursday in February. Almost empty. Nobody was there to collect money, issue permits, etc. Nice, quick stop off the highway for a refreshing five minute swim. It's the size of a recreational pool - small. If there was a crowd there or somebody collecting money it would be a buzz kill.
Easy to find, nice staff at the visitor's information center, but not much else. Nice for a pitstop. restrooms were clean. As a scuba diver, I don't think I would find this every interesting as it is only 81 feet deep. However, I did not ask if any of the divers explore the underwater causeways...I am assuming they have, as 4 folks have died diving there. Parking lot is not handicap friendly. Gravel, potholes. But, it is navigatable and the hole is right there.
Really neat, albeit small, swimming/diving hole. Looks like it's been stocked with koi. There were scuba divers getting ready for a night dive. That was fun to watch. Can't wait to come back when there's not snow on the ground.
It's just off i40 on a long stretch in New Mexico. This place is so cool and unique. Definitely worth seeing for the fact that it's such a random thing to find in this area. Water is very clear, refreshing, and deep. Jumping off that rock is actually a little scary when you get up there, but alot of fun once you go for it. Absolutely worth adding to your road trip plans.
Stopping in Santa Rosa during a road trip, we were surprised to find an attraction called the Blue Hole. It was advertised on the billboards & the lady at the hotel provided additional information. It is a beautiful small hole of water used for diving/swimming. The colors are gorgeous. I only wish the man-made stuff was not in the water (buoy, etc).
As a non scuba diver I would rate this attraction as poor, not much to see. Maybe it's cool if you scuba in it, I don't know. It did pass a few minutes of our time while we waited for our car repairs to be done.
On a whim we decided to drive out to Santa Rosa to check out Blue Hole and what a treat! It was neat to see that the blue spring water was actually warm to the touch, considering it was freezing (we were bundled up in our winter wear). If I'm ever there again I'd definitely stop again with a bathing suit in order to take a quick plunge.
1st always amazing to find freezing cold hole with water in New Mexico in July. I love adventitious things so this sounded right up my alley!! Yes it was fun to stop and change into a bathing suit and jump a few times into FREEZING TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY WATER!!! But the down side is someone is charging a fee to enter and it didn't seem like an official person. Then you really only stay for a few minutes. One bc the water is so cold and two bc the clientele there made you feel like you may get shot at any moment!! So we where on a family trip with kids so I jumped just to jump and we left---quick!! Only there 15 minutes max and the cops where already there!! Watched a twenties aged male throw a needle in the trash before the cop could reach him...as we ran to our car to leave!!!
After traveling three days we found this beautiful spring to rekindle our spirit! Ain't nature great
Bring your snorkel or your scuba gear and dive into the Blue Hole. This natural lake is very deep and fun to explore. It is a very strange place to find something so unusual in the middle of the desert.
Pretty water hole, very deep and blue, no one else around, pretty for photographs, unique. Would be good to experience diving there.
