I'm not often interested in the scheduled events at the Schuler Theater, mostly stage plays and traveling music performers. But if you're going to see a show in Raton, the Shuler is the place to do it. Beautiful and authentic historic interior and exterior, the real deal, not some cheesy faux-western tourist trap. It's impressive that the Shuler employees and volunteers are able to keep it so well-repaired and operational. To see a show, naturally, you have to buy a ticket. But the theater doors are often open to visitors during the day. I suggest calling for details before driving from out of town.

What a real treat it was to see the play. Grace and Glorie. I went on a Sunday matinee a little Leary of what kind of theater could be worth the 200 miles round trip in an old coal min inning turned tourist town. As soon as I enter the building I was taken back in time to a beautifully restored first class place. There was an elderly man greeting guest in the lobby as the staff was so cheerful. The play starts and immediately you real these two women are first class professional. A class job of acting and the set design was first cabin also. Those who don't know the plot should google and learn how these two characters from different times and places grew to love and care for each in a time of death. I love it so much that I drove back this Sunday for the final performance. I laughed and I cried. All I can say is the schuler theater is the place I want to go again and again

An improvised stop in Raton New Mexico on the way to Colorado ended up an unexpected pleasure. Walking down the historic main street I came across two beautiful buildings for entertainment, a classic main street movie theater and the Schuler Theater. As it was a Thursday night, there was no problem in getting a seat for that night's performance of Turn of the Screw. The adaptation of the Henry James novel was clearly inspired by the theatrical version of The Woman in Black, and the professional actors brought the chilling tale to life in this one-act play. So, for 15 dollars, I got to admire a gem of a building and see a play done well. For that money, you can just about afford an ice cream at intermission on Broadway ...

What a treat to see "Grace & Glorie" at a beautifully kept secret. The Shuler Theater is a little piece of the past with a wonderful history. Every summer, professional acting troupes come through and bring the theater back to life. If you are in Northeastern New Mexico, near Raton, in the summer, look up the play schedule for the Shuler. You will enjoy the show. It is worth the trip.

What could be better than live professional summer repertory in an historic and beautiful theatre. Although I live in Taos, I made the pleasant drive to Raton to watch a wonderfully hilarious adaptation of the irreverent Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest". Two weeks later I returned and was gripped by the two person performance of Henry James's brooding and mysterious "Turn of the Screw."Hats off to everyone!

We went to see a local production of Steel Magnolias at the Shuler and were fortunate enough to be able to have a personal tour of the theater the next day- what a treat! The manager knew all of the history of the theater and its architecture- truly a piece of local history and worth going in and seeing if you are in Raton!

Beautiful architecture, plenty of seating, yet you are right up close to the action. Built in 1914, this theatre is one of the few places left where you can watch live acting in style!
