We were thrilled to have been able to book for 3 nights last summer at this great lookout tower in Wyoming. Unfortunately, I spent way to much time telling people to leave our campsite. It seems that everyone knows about this site now and wants to take a look. We even had a family of 6 come walking up the stairs, and when I told them it was reserved, they still asked if they could "just take a look". Ummm, no. l I am trying to spend some time with my family without YOU. (many) others drive up the dirt road and park in front of the driveway to the site because (I was told) it is the only place for miles to get cell phone service. We had a couple come in because they wanted info for a book they were writing. It just went on and on. It was completely intrusive all weekend and I didn't feel that we got a change to relax because of the constant interruptions. It is a fantastic place, and if you can book it, it would be fun for a night. If you are in the area, leave the campers alone! If you have the site and go for a hike, etc, be sure to lock the tower and your car when you leave, because you are not alone.

For a long time this place was not known by many, which made it the perfect hidden get away. It has increased in popularity and is hard, the last we tried, to get reservations. It is a unique and relaxing stay if you are an outdoor enthusiast. It has 360 degree views of mountains, lakes, timbered hills and wildlife. You'll be tucked away from the hustle of town and have a quiet, relaxing time (besides curious explorers to the area).Do plan on carrying your supplies up several flights of stairs, or hoisting them up in a 5 gallon bucket. Take lots of water. There is a pit toilet near the base of the tower. A picnic table is on site. If you're luck enough to visit during a storm, expect quite the show. As mentioned before, plan ahead. It can be hard to get reservations.

This lookout tower is available through recreation.gov only. Site books 6 months in advance - and it does book fast! If you can get it - take it! The drive from Laramie is about 40 minutes. Bring sleeping gear -there are two twim beds (with mattresses) and we squeased 4 people in. Has stove, table, and a fridge that only works a little. Plates and silverware are on site, and you must take your own trash out. Bring Water!! Outhouse is clean, but a little down the hill from the site.I went with my kids, who loved the pully system to get stuff up. We hiked the local hills, and there is a res. nearby if you are into fishing. Would be a great place to hide out and read for days! They veiw are 360 and worth the trip!
