The day after Thanksgiving they were closed but we were able to scoot through the side of the gate to enjoy the mammoth sculptures surrounding the visitor center. I would like to return when it is open as I am sure that the visitor center would have a lot of wonderful information.
This is a Great Place to take your family on an excursion! This little museum is hidden away but well worth a visit. It will give you insight on how the Indians lived and survived on the plains. In the summer they have children's workshops or adults can help with a live dig.
The lake dried up years ago. The drought in this area apparenlty has killed off the plants along the nature trail because about all we saw was dead grass. The indoor museum is nice but not very big.
We have been going to the Landmark for years. My kids love the programs. I love the trails. It is a quiet and wondrous place to get in touch with nature. The museum is excellent, though small. We always like to see what has changed in the exhibits. The staff is phenomenally helpful and friendly. Helpful hints: Trails do get hot in the summer, so bring water (they also have it in the store) snacks for little ones on the bigger trails are a good idea. The Archeology trail has some shade and is better in the heat of the day. The Landmark is a different experience from morning to afternoon with regards to animals, week to week with wildflowers and cacti blooming thru the spring and summer.
This is the place to see human history come alive. It is a still actively worked archeological site with a a good museum showing the finds from the dig. They also have lots of weekend, Spring Break and Summer activities and camps for children.
It's fun to look for wildlife on the trails, the Mammoth statues are awesome. Don't go when it's HOT!
The homes on hills and bluffs surrounding this lake are beautiful. Some are definitely unigue in design. Very expensive area of the country to live in from my point of view.
We went on a school field trip. The kids did not appreciate it as much, but I loved it.
Great place to run. Great summer programs for kids, very well done. Nice museum. Fauna observed: coyotes, prairie dogs, jack rabbits, eastern cottontails, horned lizards, collarded lizards, northern long nosed snake, prairie kingsnake, tarantulas, lots 'o birds.
Really enjoy this small archealogical museum. It's hard to believe there's over 10,00 yrs of human history in Lubbock! Would be nice to get a little closer to dig site, but it is free and indoor exhivits are nice. Always too hot to do the trails when Ive been there. The nearby prairie dog town is pretty cool.
They mostly do school groups for their events. But if you watch the local newspaper, you can catch them doing events for things like National Trails Days.We went to one of their dusk tours, and saw native plants and heard about the digs, and got some astronomy info, too. It's a nice nature facility in Lubbock.
