Great walking street....does not take long to cover... lots of food trucks and some usual shops. If you like funky vintage clothing then you will love this area. Allow about 3-4 hrs. if you are restricted for time.
Lots of cool and trendy shops with a nice mix of eclectic. Everything from fancy yarn and tasty coffee to trendy fashions. Very walkable with a number of restaurants if you get hungry.
Just to have a great day out looking in shops and taking in the bars and music is a great time. Too many great restaurants to name and a lot of good music.
This is a fun place to stroll and people watch with great restaurants, funky stores, interesting galleries.
It's a friendly area. The long stretch of street sports a variety of shops from trinket and 2nd hand stores to arts and craft establishments…Lots of cafe's and coffee bars dot the path. Parking is a major problem yet it is doable if you stick with it …Be aggressive..The locals know all the tricks.
We spent the afternoon walking up and down this street. We stopped in many of the overpriced thrift shops. It was still fun to see the unusual products. There were a lot of restaurants in between these stores which offered a nice reprieve. It was difficult to find parking, and be aware of the parking restrictions. This are may be oversold. However, if on this street eat at South Congress Cafe, mind blown.
Austin is a great city, and South Congress is the perfect example of why. Local shops and bars litter the street, and it is easy to kill a day. Grab a bloody mary at Doc's, it is outstanding.
Lots of fellow visitors casually visited the multitude of shops and enjoying drinks and meals at the independent shops. Nice way to spend a weekend afternoon.
Hip young and artistic with tons of restaurants and cool one off shops. Parking is tight but look around there are garages.
We drove from the JW Marriott where we stayed. Then we strolled up & down, looking in the shops. We had eaten breakfast at the Moonshine. There is a lot of variety of the shops. There were tons of restaurants and some food trucks, too, so we could have eaten somewhere on S. congress.
If you've got the time, definitely visit South Congress Avenue. From the food trucks to the great little shops...it's all an experience. Parking can be tight during busy hours in the late afternoon and evenings. Try some of the side streets but watch out for those no parking signs ;)
Tons of cool shops, restaurants, and people watching. Wander around Uncommon Objects. Great area to spend a couple of hours hanging out.
Park your car and wander South Congress going into the various shops. You might not buy anything but the experience will help you understand why people say "Keep Austin Weird". They mean it. As you pass the Magnolia Grill, stop in even if you just ate. The food is great, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Shopping for anything - kitsch included, restaurants of all kinds, bars, live music, people watching...South Congress is an awesome place to stroll and spend the day or night. Plus if you continue north, you can even visit the State Capitol, where frequently there is a demonstration or protest happening on the south steps to add particular interest to your visit.
Very unique place! Our family had a great time on soco during our visit. Great places to eat and shop, just be prepared to stand in lines and wait a while to find parking.
