We planned to visit this museum while in Sweetwater but they were closed during their open hours. They advertised to be open on one sign from 10-4 and another sign said 1-4. Either way we were there after 1 but the doors were locked and no one answered. My family was very disappointed.
I took my 6 year old neighbor the curator gave us a tour like we where a party of twenty. They Also have crafts for the kiddos run by donations. I've been 8 or 9 times it's always diff
My wife and I attended this museum today. It is set in an historic house just east of downtown Sweetwater. Built in 1906 for a local judge and his family, this house has also been a local mortuary before being donated to the city in the 1970s. This first floor is set up like the orginal house from the early 1900s. The basement houses a massive Indian arrowhead collection along with some mammoth fossils. The second floor has a historical research room with the other rooms set up much like the first floor. There is an annex area where other locally themed displays are located. My favorite display was the 1927 ladder fire truck with the wooden ladders. If you have some time you should stop by. The museum is free, donations are accepted. We got there right at opening time and the curator gave us a tour and a lot of information about the items in the museum. Hours are Wed to Sun 1pm to 5pm.
