devil's rope museum

We called here as it's a route 66 roadside attraction and we were pleasantly surprised. Never being a huge fan of barbed wire - or really thinking too much about it really, I thought it may be a little dull. But it was great. We had a good chat with the curator who spent time telling us all about the history of the place and we managed to while away about 2 hours in all. I never had any idea there would be so many different types of barb wire! If you're travelling route 66 it's definitely worth a stop. Oh, and it's free so please leave a donation to give them a hand. Fab.

Stopped in on our route 66 adventure. Could have spent hours in here. You would not think barbed wire would have such a significant history but it does. Also cool route 66 history section and dust bowl pictures. Loved the lady working there as well. Please donate to keep it going folks.

We were really looking forward to visiting and it didn’t disappoint. From the outside it looks quite small, however, inside it’s really big. I never knew there were so many types of barbed wire! The lady on the counter asked me if Billy Connolly had sent us. We spent much longer there than planned as we were fascinated by the whole place, and of course we managed to spend money in the gift shop (what family trip isn’t complete without three bags of barbed wire bits?).Free museum – fantastic, well worth the visit.

This place is like no place I have ever been or likely to ever see again! Completely ridiculous and thankfully free! Stop by for a giggle.

Unbelievable collection and history behind Barbed-Wire's making and importance of its use. This is a nice stop along the Route 66.

Who knew barbed wire had so much history. This museum has very good displays, it's organized, very clean and well lit. The sculptures and displays made out of the wire were very interesting and my kids had a great time looking at them. The museum also houses a display of Route 66 memorabilia from the area and scrap books containing articles about the historic road. They have a very nice gift shop with reasonable prices and the staff was extremely friendly. If you are traveling Route 66 stop in, take a break and learn a little bit about the history of barbed wire and the mother road.

We found the Devil's Rope Museum on Trip Advisor. It was a surprisingly interesting stop along Route 66. It was a cool little museum with lots of interesting history about the importance of barbed wire and the settling of the west. Now, you might think this would be a boring museum, but it wasn't. We spent about an hour there and especially enjoyed the sculptures of barbed wire and the vintage tools. The lobby had a great display of handmade crosses and a huge collection of salt and pepper shakers that we really enjoyed. The woman on staff was very friendly and helpful and even offered us directions to the Cadillac Ranch. The museum is free, but if you enjoy it as much as we did, you'll want to drop a few bucks in their donation box. They also had an interesting display of photos about the dust bowl and a small Route 66 museum that was also interesting. Take a few extra minutes out of your day and drop by here!

We had this attraction on our Route 66 schedule. Pulled in to the parking lot, and said, "Oh no, we are the only ones here." Made the trip inside anyway. Wonderful lady who came from Southern Texas engaged us with her background and the story of the museum. It is two places at once - a Route 66 museum and a museum regarding barb wire. I thought "so what." Then to remember that there were hundreds of varieties of the stuff and there were millions of miles of it used to tame the West. One of a kind place and a very homey and sincere presentation of the subjects. And there was NO CHARGE!! We left some money in the contribution jar, but the experience was worth a whole lot more. Real Americana displayed by wonderful people. By the way, when we left there were at least 10 people in the place. Don't be afraid to be a "trendsetter."

I really liked this place, it is not just barb wire, there are also examples of the brands used by famous presidents, old roadside remnants of 66 and old adverts. The lady who owns it met Billy Connolly when he was here doing his tour. I also bought a copy of The Grapes of Wrath here and I was very happy with that cause it was bought on the road :-)

My family was doing a rt 66 trip and pulled over for this museum on a whim. So glad we didn't drive on by! It's free, just a donation jar is set up. We gave what we thought was fair after our time spent there.

I saw this attraction on Billy Connelly's Route 66 show and had to see it for myself. It was definitely worth the stop and they've put a lot of effort into making barbed wire "not boring". There's other Route 66 memorabilia to see there as well.

There is actually a lot to see in this small museum. It's not just barb wire, it's got a lot of ranching stuff too, brands, tools, etc. they also have a small Route 66 Museum. You can't go wrong, it's free. If you like it, you can leave a donation or make a gift shop purchase. The employee working when I stopped by was more than happy to answer all of my questions about local history. Seeing this this town deserted by the building of I-40 was depressing. Maybe we should have a war here so we can rebuild it better. I didn't realize that Route 66 still existed here until 1984. Learn something new every day.

This is a museum you must see when you are traveling 66 ..... never ever seen so much barbed wire all together, never knew there were so many different brands ... and the art work is amazing, so you see there is a nice side to barbed wire too !! :)

thought it would be a hoaky small town thing, but found it to be rather extensive and quite interesting.

We were intrigued by seeing the signs along the highway for a "devil's rope" museum, and decided we needed to stop and find out what devil's rope is. The museum had great exhibits showing the history of barbed wire in Texas, as well as barbed wire art. The amount of artifacts in this museum was nearly overwhelming, but we managed anyway. We wish we had more time to check it out in more detail. The Route 66 and the Dust Bowl exhibits were bonuses! Definitely worth a visit.
