My family and friends had an amazing time at Silverback Distillery! The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the owners were awesome! We visited several wineries and tap rooms throughout the day, but the hospitality we received at Silverback was just superb. After having a round of flights, the owners actually took us back to the production room and explained the process of making the various liquors. Talk about cool, down to earth folks! My family and friends are still talking about Silverback and we can't wait to come back! Hands down, amazing experience.
My son said to stop- boy are we glad we did! The owner did our tasting...he is fun and very knowledgable....you just want them to succeed. It was a a great break from the wineries. Some gin is going back to northern VA. Make sure you stop!
Customer choose between tasting straight sample of the gin, vodka and grain alcohol or mixed drinks made with their products. I highly recommend the hot chocolate with gin. The staff makes this a fun time for all.
The venue is super cute and trendy. It was a great option of vodka and gin flights but there's not much space on a rainy Saturday.
I've been here a couple times now and I love the place. The owners take time with you. Their people are cool. The gin, vodka and moonshine are great. TVs are awesome. Location is beautiful. Love it.
This place is fantastic...not sure what one of these bad reviews was even referring to. Silverback just opened a couple months ago and they already have it together, their tasting room is nice and has a great feel (they made some of their empty bottles into lights). The tastings were awesome, I would go with the mixed drink tastings and try their homemade Bloody Mary mix. The Gin was particularly surprising (I'm not a huge gin fan), it was not as harsh as some of the other gins I've had, very refreshing. The staff was also very knowledgable and we even met the owner! Make sure you ask for a tour they have some really nice equipment. Definitely worth it!
Silverback has some tasty spirits with interesting and subtle flavors. I caught a hint of coriander in all three of the spirits. I can't wait for their Bourbon and Rye.
This is a new business. Just beginning to grow. We believe they will be around for a long time. The tasting was helpful for us to know what we would like to purchase.
We stopped by during their first week or two of being open and it was packed out! Took some pics in/outside and took the tour of the distillery. Not much on hard liquor, so no review of that, but a lot of folks were having a great time! Enjoy the pics!
had a wonderful visit to the distillery. There were a couple tasting options, shots, mixers or combination. I did shots (1/2 ounce pours). They currently have vodka, gin and a grain alcohol. I enjoyed all three. I will definitely return.
After visiting all the vineyards and wineries in the area for my wife, it was my turn. SB Distillery had only been opened for a few weeks and I wanted to see how they distilled vodka, gin and moonshine. The distillery was closed but the tasting room was open. Our server seemed to be in a rush and was sweating as he greeted us and asked us what pours we wanted. He was not very helpful in discussing all of their alcohols or distilling or pretty much anything. He wanted to pour my three drinks and move on. I enjoyed the vodka, the gin was a little stiff and the Monkeyrita was a great mixer. I would have liked to get a tour and see how it was all made but no such luck on this visit.
fun place to visit and sip some hard liquor. The tastings come in straight pours of their vodka, gin or moonshine or you can get mixers. I had a gin and ginger taste, a gin and tonic, and a straight pour of vodka for $10. You get a small shot glass of each and the shot glasses are served on wood "trays". The pourer was very knowledgeable and some how memorized 5 people's orders of 3 shots/drinks each. The gin is delicious with not just junipers berries, but cardamom, almond, lemon, and various other herbs and deliciousness. Quite tastey! The vodka is clear, pleasant, no strong bitter aftertaste, and great! I did not try the moonshine--which will be bourbon in a few years. The tasting room is very nicely appointed with 3 largish bar areas with comfortable bar stools. They do not have food--against Virginia laws, but there was a food truck outside. The only downside is that you can't order a drink and stay awhile--tastings only--but that is Virginia law again. We will definitely visit again.
The distillery has been open for about four weeks and it is producing three products... Beringei Vodka, Strange Monkey Gin and Blackback White (Whiskey), It's located on Nelson County's Alcohol Alley. The tasting room fronts the actual distilling facility, which has periodic tours. This is boutique all the way. Your tasting can either be straight or with mixers. My suggestion is to taste each straight so you can get the true essence, then go with the mixers... Gin & Ginger and Bloody Mary with Vodka. The moonshine stands alone and someday will be bourbon. There is a story here... as the name of the distillery comes from the owners nickname... Silverback. If he's behind the bar or around, be sure to seek him out and ask for his story. Silverback has taken great care to make his products special. The Gin has some added essences that make it a big London Dry Gin flavor... that goes great with ginger ale. And the bottle itself has a gorilla (a sliverback) showing through the bottle... eerily staring at you. The vodka is crisp (and has a mandrill staring back at you)... and the home made Bloody Mary mix would be a separate product on its own and soon may be. The white whiskey has a real raw bite to it... and may be an acquired taste. The products aren't cheap... mainly because they're not cheap liquors. They are truly hand crafted and worth the price. BTW, their Tees and hats are pretty cool too. Even if you're not big on liquor, it's a great change of pace from the breweries and wineries in the area.
Stopped by on their second day of operation and had a great experience. The owner greeted us as we entered the tasting room. Super nice guy. Explained the concept behind the name and told us about their Vodka and Gin. Both are really smooth, very balanced and velvety on the tongue. They plan to have a bourbon in three years and I can't wait! Met the distiller and he is a super nice guy too! Give them a try.
