We visited three vineyards in the area, and this one was our least favorite. In their defense, I enjoy sweet white wines and they do not make those. They were only tasting four wines the day we went. I would probably not return.

This was the first vineyard we visited on the CT wine trail. This is a very scenic vineyard overlooking the water in the distance. The Amtrak rail line is also viewable in the distance. The building is a converted airplane hanger from the 40's. Beautiful job of renovating. Tastings are offered on a 2nd floor mezzanine overlooking the main floor. My wife and I have been back a few times just to relax with a bottle of wine and a picnic lunch in their outdoor adirondack chairs. Feel free to walk through the vines to the water. Occasionally they have live music. Beautiful location to have a wedding. The staff was very friendly and gave us the history of the vineyard. We enjoyed the Cab Franc and their estate Chardonnay.

This winery is OK. I do not have a favorite wine here but the person that I went with did purchase a bottle. The scenery is beautiful!! Each year I stop to do a tasting on the CT Wine Trail but I do not find the staff very friendly. The building is very clean and large.

We had a group of 4 last Saturday 11/01/2014 that decided to go wine tasting. We went to this vineyard first as it was the closest to where we were staying well upon arriving we were quickly a\surprised at the appearance of the facility! The double doors bring you into a very majestic winery that was a converted airport hanger . They did a marvelous job renovating this and tasting occurs upstairs where very friendly and knowledgeable people take care of you ! We had Nancy that was very gracious and quite knowledgeable about the different wines. Bottom line we had a great time and the views of the vineyard are fantastic and people very helpful and friendly! I will be returning to this vineyard for sure!

We stopped by here for a tasting the other day as it is on the wine trail. The setting is nice in an old hangar and they have a nice location on the water. The wines, however, were less than stellar. For $10 you try 4 wines. The first one was a Chardonnay, that as the server told us, had a slight almost salty flavor, from being right by the water. We didn't care for it, as that extra hint made it not that great. The Savignon Blanc was okay, although nothing too spectacular. The Rose had absolutely no flavor at all, we might as well been drinking water, it really was that bland. I've never had a wine that blah before. The Cabernet Franc we were told was bottled a bit early and would be better in a couple of years. The flavor was okay and probably in a couple years would be good, but it certainly didn't inspire us to buy it and we have had much better elsewhere. Overall, we were disappointed. The servers were friendly and informative and they have a nice location and setting, but the wines, which should be the main thing you go there for, are really not that good, or at least not in our opinion and we will probably not be going back anytime soon.

We visited the Saltwater Farm Vineyard for tasting on a Friday afternoon. While the building and surrounding grounds are beautiful, the wine and tasting experience were disappointments. The vineyard looks to be a nice place to have a wedding or other grand event, but you can skip visiting it if you are purely interested in trying its wines. For a fee of $10, you receive samples of four wines: two whites, a rose and a red. Both the sauvignon blanc and chardonnay were drinkable, but the rose had no flavor and the cabernet franc had no depth of flavor. During the tasting, our server seemed totally disinterested in interacting with the patrons. She would pour a sample, give a short description of the wine, and then return to her cell phone to continue texting or emailing. We left shortly after our tasting concluded.

On our recent visit to Mystic, we drove over to the Vineyard and I would recommend if you are in the area, you consider doing the same. A beautiful piece of property! They restored a hanger which now houses their tasting rooms, event room and their winery with fermenting tanks. There is a beautiful outdoor patio and grounds with picnic tables and Adirondack chairs that overlook the vineyard with the water in the distance. It seems to be a hit with the locals and many pack snacks and lunch, buy a bottle of wine and make an afternoon/evening of it. We went on a Thursday around 5pm and they have live music and a local oyster farm shucking and selling oysters for a fee. The staff is amazing, knowledgeable, friendly and make you feel right at home. All that and I really enjoyed their wines too! Particularly the chardonnays (not the fruity sweet local wines I’ve tasted at other vineyards) and took a few bottles home!

The winery was built in an old airport hangar (my 96 yr old great aunt actually had been there when it was a hangar!). It is surrounded by saltmarshes, vineyards and water - the scenery is beautiful! There is even an osprey nest on premise, along with many smaller birds and even hummingbirds that joined us on the lawn seating. We went for the Wine Tasting on Thursday night, and sat outside on the lawn near the vineyard. The tasting was held on the mezzanine upstairs, but we bought a bottle of wine (around $25) from the 4 or 5 selections instead, and sat outside. There is inside seating, patio seating, and adirondack chairs on the lawn overlooking the vineyard. There is also live music played (inside) during the tasting.Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic - people brought everything from sandwiches to french bread and cheese. There were oysters available (and nothing else), but most people just stuck to what they'd brought. We did not bring food, but I think having a baguette and brie would have been very nice. Maybe in the future, the owners should consider having those type of items for sale. Speaking of owners...the owner, Michael Connery, spoke with us that evening; enjoyed hearing about him and how Saltwater Farm Vineyard came to be. Very personable man, and we were so pleased that he spent some time with us.Check out the Vineyard's website; very well done. I understand that they do quite a few weddings there, and can imagine that it would make an incredible backdrop for a reception. The website has wedding pictures on it as well....just gorgeous! I think it would be wonderful for a date night. I'd say it would be better not to bring children, although there were children running around on the lawn, so it is not frowned upon.I brought out-of-town guests from the UK with me; we had a truly lovely evening. Looking forward to going again!

This was out 2nd visit to Saltwater Farm Vineyard and it won't be our last. We did the tasting menu and sampled 5 wines. We really liked the Chardonney aged in stainless, the Rose, and the Red's. We purchased 6 bottles to take home. The grounds are stunning so we walked around and out to the water.

had the most relaxing time just enjoying the wonderful nature with a glass of wine. the first vineyard that my wife and I went to and had the best time ever!!!! the breeze by the ocean is great and such a beautiful place. $10 for wine tasting and a glass runs from $7 to $10. you can also purchase by bottles and I believe they were around $35. not much of selections in term of wine but you can just go there and relax~~ you can bring your own food and such and bring blankets to lie down on the grass, under the tree if you want... have a small picnic/lunch and just take a nap. enjoy the nature~~ I really wanna go back!!

This winery is filled with history and flavor. The wines are good, especially the whites, and are reasonable. The winery itself is in an old, restored airplane hangar and with the high, vaulted ceiling, it is a great location right on a salt marsh. You can still see the original grassy landing field in the middle of the vines. If I had a big event, this would be the venue! Beautiful, peaceful, multileveled and friendly people. Recommend.

Attended a retirement party at SWFV and it was just wonderful. Michael and Merrily were wonderful to work with. Love the atmosphere and especially the rose wine. The cabernet is wonderful as well. Can't wait to return for their music nights this summer.

First visit 6/14/14 staff was very welcoming and helpful, wines are light and crisp, a bit pricey but good. Building is old airplane hanger, nice walk down the grass runway to the water. Hostess informed they have music on Sundays and guests can bring a picnic and blanket to sit on the lawn. Must do that this summer!

We visited this winery in October. The whole experience from arrival to departure was great. Very organized and the staff provided great customer service. The property and the building are beautiful. We enjoyed all of the wines during the tasting. The wine server was really personable and filled us in on some plans for the winery next year. We stayed and purchased a bottle of wine and drank it on property. There were tables set up sit at and enjoy your wine and any munchies your brought with you. I wish I had thought to bring some cheese and crackers! We enjoyed the Chardonnay so much we purchased a bottle to bring home. It was a delightful place for a tasting. We have been to five CT Wineries and this is our favorite one to date. Enjoy!
