Toada place is a great little venue in new heaven. Have been there for many shows over the years. Sounds quality of the bands are amazing.
A great place for the college kids of New Haven and the few parents who have great kids who offer an opportunity to join them. As an aunt during Yale graduation, I was lucky enough to tag along to see what is so great about Toads. It definitely took me back to my college years of sloppy floors, loud music, and flashing lights. Obviously, the kids love it. As a parent, just being able to spend time with kids is a great time. They serve beer, alcohol, and more of the same. Don't expect food, chairs, or tables. It is standing room only. ID is checked at the door, but as with any college town, no guarantees. Be prepared for a line. If you are lucky few, you can be whisked inside without waiting. How that works, I'm not sure. It happened all too fast. What Toad's does offer is some great music, dancing, and fun. As a music venue, Toad's is known to offer first rate music from the Stones to Macklemore. On January 12, 1990, Bob Dylan started a tour with a Toad's Place performance including four sets that lasted over five hours, his longest show to date. Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Koko Taylor were some of the first performers. The neighborhood can be a rough place, having observed many police out front and a few arrests. But then again, New Haven is famous for the number of sirens you hear in any 30 minute period. http://www.toadsplace.com
I've been coming here for over 20 years; it was the only place we could get into when I was a teenager (most shows are all-ages). The sound is (usually) pretty good, whether there are 15 people or 1000. This venue has been in business since the early 70's, and it shows, but it's all part of the 'atmosphere' in a way! there's never a line for the bathroom (there are plenty), the bartenders are extremely efficient, and after more NYE's than I care to count, I will still go see any decent band that comes here. The best part is there are often discount tix for the cover, which generally ranges from $0 (for 21+) to $10, with a very few of the bigger names going up to $15. just a nice fun laidback place to catch good music.
This was the best bar on Saturday nights! Quinnipiac and Yale students come to Toads place for cheap drinks, great music, and college kids going wild. This is the place to go party!!!
From the Rolling Stones to Stevie Ray Vaughn, every band on the way up or a headliner now, Toads is a place where every band has played at sometime in their career. They now offer seating for some shows, which is very good. Do not expect clean bathrooms, but expect great sound, lights and a good band. From jazz to rock, the have it all. One of my all time favorites for live music in a bar setting in Connecticut. Parking can be a bit tough so if you are going to see a good band get there early and use the city parking lot (it does fill up) around the corner.
Came here with friends to enjoy some live music. Beer selection was decent. Drinks were a bit pricey but acceptable. Atmosphere was good. Would come again. Its located in the center of Yale University.
A noisy unattractive place patronized by townies and Yale students with no taste for anything but cheap booze and loud music.
This place is an institution and it has not changed very much since inception decades ago. It is an open space with limited seating where you can stand and hear bands playing everything from rock to jam to hip hop to even jazz on their way up, out, or firmly on top. The list of acts who have played here reads like a who's who, but Toads bears no pretensions. It offers the same stage and dusty floorboards to gyrate on as always for any who would come. You get to be part of legend.
Our Son the drummer has played at Toads with his previous band. I never frequented Toads as a teenager and went for the first time with my youngest son. Definately not for my generation but the kids enjoy the music and dancing. Beer is the only selection ( it is a college, now High School place to be). The sound system was great compared to other places he has played. The place dirty! He was old enough to be with out us, but would never leave him there with out an adult near by. That is just us.........other parents definatley feel differently an allowed their children to be there way too young in my eyes.
If you like live music Toads Place is the place you should visit. Lots of great local bands when I was there.
Great location, entertainment and the best of everything else close by. Lots of good memories! York Pizza is a legend and it's next door.
Many good times had here when they have decent entertainment. They also host a pretty decent Halloween party, which are hard to find, even crappy ones.
If you like the bar scene, like live music, then Toad's is the place for you. They have head lined some really phenomenal talent over the years. Always lively and crowded. Perfect for when you want to be in the middle of the action.
come to Toad's for a wonderful experience to get up close with some of the best music makers around. there's usually an opportunity to meet with the band or get autographs. Always a fun time.
toad's has been a part of New Haven for a long time. they have had some famous musicians play here as well as local bands. If you like live music and local talent as well as well known musicians toad's is the place to visit.
