Kind of a touristy stop however fun just the same. Every variety of spiced, flavored and just plain roasted and salted pecans as well as some nice flavored Delta Blues 100% pure virgin pecan oil. Something for everyone. Some reviews have mentioned items being 'over priced'...well this is a locally owned business in Indianola, MS - let's help support local business as we enjoy traveling the countryside.
Of course I had to stop and visit the original Pecan House. Have always loved most of the favors of pecans, and other items they make and sell. Cute gifts, some pricey.
This is the original Indianola Pecan House location .. BUT .. I'm not sure what ATTRACTION it is. Anyway, At this location for many, many years now, the local pickers bring in the pecans gathered and sell them. Inspections, cleaning, cracking and re-packaging all happen in the rear area. It is possible to buy nuts at the store front and you can be assured of getting the freshest of the harvest. Now, Be advised there is a considerable mark up and some of the stuff sold in the gift shop area can border on the ridiculous (price wise) Touristy ..YES. A Delta institution .. Absolutely.
Loved the ambiance and everything about this store. They have the most darling Mississippi items. Mississippi State and Ole Miss school items for you to display in your home. All the pecans you could possibly want and they gift wrap if needed. Great people!
I like the honey-roasted, the praline, the chocolate-covered.... I just can't choose one favorite of the different flavors of pecans that are for sale. Pull in and sample some of the wonderful pecans. And, browse in the gift section. You can even buy a pecan pie for tonite's dessert!
The Indianola Pecan House is a Delta institution. However, pretension has proven to override good sense. The prices are outrageous. Sometimes in life, you get what you pay for - however, in this case, you are just paying for a name. If you want to impress someone with a gift, buy it here. If you want to get that person a really nice gift - shop somewhere else.
You can sample over 40 different types of flavors of pecans and cookies. If you like pecans and nuts you would love the Pecan House. Hint: Closes at 5 PM...
We were taken aback when we pulled into the pecan house and actually saw people lined up to sell their pecans. Inside there was a wide selection of pecans and plenty of samples. The girls who work there are not friendly so watch out for that and the prices-you pay for the freshness. As we left, we passed a boy counting the cash he earned selling his pecans and we watched as he rode away on his bicycle. My husband is from pecan country and has never seen such.
We stopped by out of curiosity and I thought I would have to drag my husband out. There are free samples of all the different pecans they sell. Needless to say they probably went in the hole after we left. Hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did.
